UF #1 is a possibilty.. I believe tebow has already said he will be back next year. Bama #2 maybe..They had a good number of freshman starting this year. The rest of the list really starts to get questionable. Ole Miss #11 ?? Vandy #23? I guess anything is possible but I really doubt it. why don we just throw duke in there somewhere. They beat vandy..
It doesnt really surprise me UT was not in there. The staff hasnt been put together yet and there is still a lot of recruiting to go. I expect that to change in August. I am not expecting a championship year but I dont think a top 25 finish is expecting too much.

Three points:

1) no way Bama finishes in top ten...they don't even have a QB

2) they must be assuming Tebow stays

3) They (the writers, and most of the nation) have no confidence in LK, which I think is accurate.

Not surprising they might not have confidence in something they have not seen. They have proven to be inept at rating things they have seen. Evident by the fact they selected GA as preseason #1 last year and 150 of them that left Tebow off their Heisman ballots.

Just somebody that didn't have anything relevant to write about came up to sell ads. Circuit City ....... and they were ranked ahead of us.

Oh yes and I believe I nailed UGA's record this year. Of course I thought we might give them that third loss, not GA Tech. It's hilarious how off preseason polls are. I don't understand why they keep coming out with them as it doesn't add much credence to their ability as analysts.

Just exactly where do you think they're going? Who exactly is going to beat them, with Saban and all the young talent he is amassing down there. After 2 straight blowouts to him, I would think we would stop whistling past the graveyard re: Bama. They're back, and they're damn good. No one will stop them til UT gets back up. Not LSU, and not Auburn.

As for the QB, consider that Wilson only had to lead his team when trailing in the 4th qtr one time all year. That ended up with the lone loss of the year and only 6 plays the entire qtr. My point? - Wilson was adequate to run the offense, and the power run game got them out and the defense never relented. Wilson was, is, and always will be a very average Bama QB. If you think their play at that position will not improve, both talent and execution wise, as the years come, you're fooling yourself. Kiffin must recruit to beat them. Period.

Fwiw, that site hit 8 of the top ten with last years predictions.... Compared to the AP, that is.

Worst "preseason" polling that I have ever seen. Vandy can only dream of being in the Top 25. Ole Miss shouldn't be within sniffing distance of the polls, period.

I am a diehard oakland raiders fan, and the worst thing that we did this year was get rid of Lane. Even worse is the fact that he wanted do bring his dad in to coach our D, but our "genius" of an owner decided not to let him do that. The rankings mean nothing, especially at this point in time. Trust me, Lane and his dad are going to bring this program back to the top. You are in for a hell of a ride.

I agree. I was looking at the recruiting list for both Alabama and LSU a few nights back. They are flat out landing some quality players. Personally, I would consider giving up a left private part to have a team stocked like that.

With Auburn's hire, Saban will own the west. LSU has talent and will always recruit well but CLM is a moron and thier games will be close on talent alone. I think CHN is the only one in the west that can come halfway close to presenting a sound team capable of beating Alabama. A few weeks back, I didn't think Alabama would do that well next year but, with the SEC west crumbling, they may have another banner year.

Howdie...I am the owner of NationalChamps.net and I found there were a good many referrers coming from this forum through our webstats. So I thought I would take a look to see who was degrading our recent Top 25 release. LOL. We're used to it with this being our 8th season of producing the Early Bird Preview. I'll first say this in our defense...we have pegged eight plus teams in the top 10 - the same ones the AP Poll spits out in August - in four of the last five seasons with this early relelase. That part is easy based on the current polls and who comes back.

I am reading a ton of beefs here about the rankings. But as is usually the case, most only talk about who doesn't belong as oppossed to telling me who does belong. That too is easy. So most of you are saying that outside of Alabama, Florida and UGA that no one else in the SEC deserves a Top 15 ranking? If so, then who instead of Ole Miss? Vanderbilt, I can see where someone would have a problem with such a ranking despite the fact they return the most starters of anyone in the SEC by a large margin. Probably a big stretch that won't see them there when our spring release comes out.

Unfortunately we do assume everyone is coming back as we cannot guess who jumps early to the NFL and base a ranking on that assumption. That is the bad part about an early poll like this. But our goal as stated on the preview is to show who comes back and who departs. And this much is true...you can remember we told you Florida will be a LANDSLIDE No. 1 team in all the preseason polls this summer. Even if Tebow, Spikes and Harvin do leave. They lose absolutely no one on defense and that includes all the backups (outside of maybe Spikes). Alabama has nine starters back from the nation's No. 3 ranked defense (No. 1 in the SEC).

Would appreciate it more if someone would care to do their own ranking. It helps us to get other opinions. We give you all the info. Of course, we really got laughed at when we had Ball State in our Top 25 last year at this time. The same the year before when we put South Florida there (the climbed as high as No. 2 in the polls that season). Ole Miss is the fourth best team in the SEC now and likely will be heading into 2009. Can someone tell me what SEC team belongs in front of them?

BTW, very nice forum. Thanks for the feedback :)

Yeah, Tennessee should be first in your poll, and the fact that you don't even have us ranked means you need a water tower full of orange kool-aid :pepper:

but seriously...no to vanderbilt, insert Miami.

They are improving and play in a miserable conference. Break out year next year for the U.

Don't ever consider Notre Dame until they prove you otherwise. They are a constant let down, and they're preparing themselves to nix Chucky W and hire CUM after 09

I think Ole Miss is more in the 15-20 range. I have no problem with Bama being in the top 5. Losing JPW will not hurt them as much as some believe IMO.

I am used to it. Notre Dame won't see the light of a Top 25 preseason ranking. But I do believe they will win 8-9 games next season. They made the right move keeping Weis. The track record of the hiring/firing procedures have proven bad. They won 3 games with all freshmen in 2007, they won 6 games with all sophomores in 2008...they win eight-nine next year with juniors.

Any other year and Ole Miss ain't here. Given the SEC current status quo they just might be. Beat Texas Tech and I think they will.

Hey, I love orange cool aid. Had some while parked at Calhoun's on the River for the Bama game last October. My first time in Knoxville. Brain not the same now. So yes to some posters question...I am still stoned
