2008 Speculation: Firing Fulmer?

Has that been confirmed? Honestly, I'd say Fulmer's intervention was probably pretty warranted after the UCLA game.

What are you watching? In every single game you can see players wide open all over the field. His scheme is fine. I think people need to come to the realization that Crompton just isn't any good. I haven't seen a QB at Tenn before that literally never puts any air under the ball and tries to make every single throw with his arm. The guy tries to make a Favre-esqu throw every single time he drops back.

The remainder of your post becomes pointless after this ridiculous assumption. We have no shot in hell of finishing 8-4 or 7-5. Keep dreaming.

Assume 8-4 or 7-5? That's one heck on an assumption! On the remaining schedule the Vols will beat Northern Illinois, Wyoming, Miss. St., and Kentucky. Maybe, just maybe, Vanderbilt too (but I wouldn't bet on it). Better to assume 5-7 or 6-6.

That's why it's called an assumption -- not a prediction, not expectation, but a hypothetical. The issue is, if we lose more than that, Fulmer is most definitely gone and the original post doesn't make sense....which is, if you thought Clawson's offense would become something special, would you take another year or two of Phil to see him work it out. A new HC runs the high risk of cleaning house.

Fulmer's not going anywhere after this year. The next bodies to go under the bus are on the defensive side of the ball. If, after both the offensive AND defensive staffs are completely replaced... then he'll (Fulmer) get a year or two to make them both gel... if after that we're still in the tank, then I think a buy-out will be in order.

But it just ain't happening this year. Let's move along.

I believe it will happen depending on how the season plays out. If we tank against Auburn, UGA, Bama, and manage to lose one to USC, Kentucky or Vandy he's out.

I think Fulmer will be encouraged to ride off into the sunset or be fired. I dont see last year's smoke and mirrors happening again.

If we end with a bad record but the offense shows the promise that you suggest, then Fulmer stays and Chavis is the scapegoat.

You hit the nail on the head right there. If we go over .500, I could see Fulmer getting away with clearing out Chavis.

At this point, I'm not sure anything short of another losing season will be enough. I keep thinking year after year that they couldn't possibly extend his contract or give him a raise, and the AD continues to prove me wrong.

If we go 8-4, that means we beat either Auburn, Alabama, or Georgia, and that we finish no worse than 5-3 in the conference, which would probably be enough for us to finish 3rd in the east (where we were predicted to finish, for the most part) and get us into a mid- to low level bowl. Further, if we are to make this assumption, it is also safe to assume that we have made the changes necessary to stop the self- destruction we have witnessed so far. Also, CPF has his eight wins... Coach stays.

7-5 means we likely don't beat anyone of importance, we play in a low level bowl, and does not necessarily mean we have solved any of the problems that have plagued us so far... Coach goes.
