2-Top 25(22) final rankings in a row!!!!!

the only reason that's remotely close to being true is because we crapped the bed and gave USCe and Vandy wins they by all rights, should have lost.

we win those two games, as one is perfectly reasonable to expect, we stand alone at 10-2, and are looking down at a division we would have won by 2 games, and undefeated in the East.

the east was bad. it was bad 2 years ago, and it's been bad for the better part of the last 5-6 years.

Yep. UT and UGA made Vandy bowl eligible. That's about all you need to know about how good the east was.

A great coach could have won at least 2 of those games. Great coaches win games they should not win. To my knowledge Butch has one just one game he should not have one (2015 Georgia). All his other wins should have been wins to begin with. He has done nothing amazing or spectacular (in a good way) since coming to UT. He talks a lot of hype and he recruits OK but he can't coach or develop players. I don't see any of that as debatable. At best he has met expectations if you are one of these people that believes UT was a hopeless unfixable dumpster fire when Dooley left. You should never compare anyone to Dooley because you will make them out to be way better than they really are. Butch has bilked millions out of UT by using the 'hey I'm better than Dooley, but right? " line. It's just battered wife syndrome. He isn't that good period. Not many people outside this forum still think he is.

You don't consider 2013 #9 SCAR a game Butch shouldn't have won? Are you one of those fans that thinks how a good a team with a bad history can't be good presently?

context my man....context.
don't disagree, i just don't think there's any context that doesn't say otherwise.

i give credit for the rebuild...he's done good work in that arena, no argument.

but i keep going back to this....there was no where to go but up. our program was a dumpster fire when he got here.

the only thing anyone has to decide on from this point forward is do you think he'll do more than what he has? or has he hit his ceiling as a top tier power 5 coach?

i'm not trying to tell anyone how to think, but that's really the only decision one has to make, as to how you feel about Butch Jones.

cause no one can realistically argue he hasn't been good for the program from a rebuilding standpoint.

can he do more, or not? it's in the eye of the beholder

I honestly don't know...can't unequivocally say either way. There are things he's done that I like and others that are complete headscratchers....but, 85-90% of the rest (probably more) do similar things. We just tend to latch onto them cause he's "our" coach.

Thing is....damn near every coach someone wants to throw out has had the same type of seemingly boneheaded moments as CBJ, but they seem to get a break for a variety of reasons...if Jones gets no free pass, then neither should any other coach, which is honestly my only beef w/ the what-if / new, shiny coach crowd.

South Carolinas so called rise to power was less about them and more about the fact that Tennessee Florida and Georgia all sucked at the same time. South Carolina was never as good as their ranking indicated even with a washed up Spurrier as head coach. They had a couple NFL level players and never a good QB.

I don't know if I'm "one of those fans" or not. But there is a list of teams that I feel like UT should lose to once every 30 years or so. USC is on that list.
