1. Butch takes control of the offense/play calling, puts his money where his mouth is, salvages 10-3 with a convincing bowl win.

Honestly this is his only shot to win back the fan base (and the team?) after this past 72 hours. It will tell us a lot if any of our underclassman (Excluding Barnett) stay for a senior year and if JRM explores additional eligibility.

2. Butch doesn't get the job done and Hart or a new AD/(AD in waiting?) goes another route and finally hires a staff that can take us back to the 1996-2007 level that we had once grown so accustomed to. That would take a strong recruiter AND a strong game day coach.

Would you all be mad if Les Miles came and Peyton was hired as offensive coordinator? What about if Chavis came back to coach the defense? If the AD put the stadium project on hold until Butch was paid off and opened their wallet and had 3-5 high level boosters supplement, we could REALLY have the best staff in America.

So, if it is scenario 2, who are some names you want on the staff? Aside from Peyton, Gruden, etc...

Tee Martin? Kyle Wittingham? PJ Fleck?

I like Butch. I think his offensive scheme is lacking. With that said, I hope he makes necessary adjustments this year.

If Butch goes 10-3 this year, is that really something he should be fired over?

As soon as a thread brings up Les Miles and Peyton being on staff, much less TOGETHER, it can no longer have the word "rational" in the title.

Butch isn't getting fired. Period.

Do you mean the scenario where we keep barely missing the chance to go to Atlanta each year? Pretty sure that's why that coach was fired.

Oh yeah and the offense was too stale and predictable. Too much I formation.

Peyton will not coach here. He doesn't want the backlash if he doesnt succeed. Everybody here looks him right now

Should be fired today. Unfortunately, we can't because of some idiotic decisions that make it unrealistic. Like the decision to increase his buyout after year 2 and 3 despite the fact that nobody would hire him anyways. Also, letting Hart hang around. They people in power clearly haven't considered the possibility that there may need to be changes made, so they didn't even come up with an exit strategy. Our new athletic director should be looking for a coach right now. Instead, we let Hart make it even harder to fire him and simply hoped we wouldn't have to do anything until everyone's contract ran out.

This.

Butch is here through 2018 no matter how poorly this season or next season turns out. Giving him an extension to 2020 was the dumbest thing Dave Hart ever did. No school was seriously going to come and take Butch Jones from TN.

Hiring Les Miles or even Peyton would not be the right answer. And I fully doubt either would be interested in coming here right now. They know K-town and the fans.

You can't possibly believe Butch is safe through 2018. I agree with the rest.

Because it's the fans' fault that the team has come out and looked like hot garbage every game? It's the fans' fault for the team needing OT and a miracle fumble recovery to beat App State? It's the fans' fault that Ohio university played us harder than we played a terrible SC team?

I'm guessing you blamed the fans for Dooley's mistakes as well.

Financially, we can't afford to pay his buyout, the buyout of all of the assistant coaches who still have time on their contracts, and go and hire an entirely new coaching staff. The money just isn't there.

There is no justification to fire Butch Jones right now. None. There are a bunch of hurt feelings and pissed off fans no doubt, along with questionable "this and that". But enough to fire him right here? Come on, really?

Until the loss to SC, we were still theoretically in the playoff hunt! Right now we are still more than theory in the East race: do I believe we can win out and FL lose to Arky and LSU - I do. I am not predicting it but its more than a remote chance it can happen.

Regardless of both of those, a 10 win season (with bowl) is well within reach.

Can the opposite happen? Sure. But this season still has good if not great outcomes reachable albeit not in certain reach. And IMO there is no cause to fire CBJ right here, or even this year and next.

Debord .......... another story.

Lol. I agree he won't be fired, but from a progress perspective, the team is a dumpster fire of wasted talent and underdevelopment.

Pure luck, and catastrophic mistakes by our opponents are the only reason we have five wins right now. We haven't actually played a full game of good football in this entire season. That's not forward progress.

Look I feel you. But based on that, are you ready to relinquish the 1998 Natty? We got tons of luck that year. And I would say one event was more lucky than almost all of this years "luck" combined.

Survive and advance and we did until recently. Did the first few games show us this team was perhaps not as good as we thought coming in? Yea, I buy that.

But regarding luck? Championship teams survive on it every single year.

There's playing well, and catching the breaks, and then there's playing poorly, and needing the breaks to win. We've been the latter all season long.

The SEC east is as low as it ever will be, and CBJ could not put together a winning team with juniors and seniors whom he recruited. It's not going to get any easier for him.

Who said he was safe? I said we can't afford to fire him for two years, not without a massive influx of cash from some unknown source. It's not just him that we have to pay off if we fire him, it's the entire staff that still has a contract, and we have to go and pony up the cash to hire the new staff.

Manning is bot coming as OC. Will not happen so forget it. And I dont want Les.

Would be two straight years that we should have been 11-1 in the regular season.

I get that but do you know how many millions of dollars a team loses when they are subpar? It's just not an accurate statement.

And for the record, I do not think they will fire him this year. However, if he is subpar next season. They will let him go with a new AD.

Butch is probably a good guy and I could live with 10-3. But do you really see that with the way he continues to pound that square peg into a round hole and expect different results? They can lose to kentucky and vandy with the offense this inept.
