I got to thinking about this the other day when they announced Nash Nance was transferring, and it got me to thinking that we basically gave up two scholarships for one player. Now, that one player had one of the best seasons of any WR in the SEC and at UT. Here is my question/hypothetical for you:

Would you sign multiple players like Da'rick if it meant giving some of their less talented friends scholarships also? Say we get 5 or 6 guys a year like them, but it takes up 12-14 scholarships to get them. Would you do it? (and no we don't get the benefit of knowing if they are drama queens, busts, or just good players. that is part of the risk)

What say you, lone sane board of volnation?

Is this serious?

No.

You wouldn't take six 5 star athletes for twelve scholarship spots? I mean Nance was on scholarship and never risked seeing the field. I'd take a 5 star D-line and RB for two scholarships each easy.

You can't afford to unless you do pretty well with those other 7 spots too. In five years you get 20 5* players. Some will be injured. Some will not be as good as advertised. Some will be outright busts. You probably end up with maybe 12 "Da'Ricks". That's just not enough to field a great team if the rest are not talented.

It gets a little more interesting if you stay strictly at 2 for one.... and then have the one transfer after 2 years.

Hope all those 5 stars are made of steel and never get injured cause we would never have any depth with that kind of recruiting.

You would probably end up with an oustanding first team with no depth. The thing that seperates LSU and Bama from everyone right now is the fact they are at least 3 deep with serious talent everywhere. Bama still dominates without Richardson. LSU laid the wood to Auburn without Mathieu, Ware, and another corner who I can't think of. Same can be said of us when we were good. When we won the Title, Jamal Lewis goes down for the year during the Auburn game, and Al Wilson missed a game or 2. We went undefeated. The best of the best always withstand injury and keep rolling due to a wealth of depth. Wasting essentially 6 or 7 scholarships a year would leave teams in a bind when injuries started piling up.

I understand what you are saying...I just don't know why you are saying it.

Well the good thing is we don't have to do that now, it was a risk that worked out well for us but I don't think it is something you would want to take a risk on every year. Things are different now and we have DD to thank!!!!!
