I'm really steaming about this guy that called last night on Vol Calls for obvious reasons. It wasn't forward looking, it wasn't uplifting, it wasn't optimistic. Not saying everybody has to be a kool-aid sipper or anything, but it really brought home to me just how backwards and "good ole boy-ish" some people in this state can be. I'm sorry... hate to say it, but it is true. We just don't embrace change well. I'm venting a little and may be overreacting, but the combination of that guy's call last night and the "ticks and chiggers" call last week could not have left a good first impression of how most people are in Tennessee... or sadly, maybe it actually did.

After the first two weeks of Vol Calls, I would not be surprised if Kiffin finds the first opportunity to leave for some other location (provided he is successful here) and moves on to some other spot just to get away from people like that. And that is just what we were able to hear on Vol Calls... heaven only knows what this guy has had said to him on the street or but some Fulmerite or hillbilly somewhere. I'm sorry, but that is the truth. I don't like having to go there, but seriously, we did not put on our best face in the last two weeks.

I really want this program to move into the 21st Century and move out of the 1960's. Hopefully, this will be the last time I feel this negatively about my state and the people around me, but these were very sterotypical calls made by my fellow Vol fans and it just doesn't sit well with me.

Don't let one or two morons ruin it for you. Your point is well taken obviously and many will agree with you. There are people in all walks of life in all environments that don't adapt to change right away. Maybe ever. Sure it ends up looking bad to an extent, but I doubt Lane Kiffin is worried about some fools calling in on a radio show by comparison to what he's seen on the Caravan and elsewhere.

What did he say exactly? I listened last week and heard the ticks and chiggers guy. Ya, little embarrassing, but I'm sure Lane took it with a grain of salt.

CLK pretty well made the guy look like the fool that he is with the (to paraphrase) Meyer never coached in the SEC comment.

It's interesting how few calls like that got through to Fulmer. Do they not have a delay to dump flamers like that?

Some redneck from Cookville or Crossville, not sure. Said that CLK would not win at UT. He was also mad that he fired Chavis and brought in some new defensive coach he had never heard of...LOL....i thought it was funny, and very indicative of most of the people who live out in the country. Maybe he was really from Alabama???

Vol Calls needs to start screening calls again. Anyone with a heavy southern accent, whether they mean well or not, should automatically be disqualified to go on the radio haha. Noone wants to hear rednecks talk about wanting to run the wishbone or about "Kelley Warshington wuz a chump!" or " 'At Lane Tiffin needs to go back to USC!"

Better screening!!!!

I know that the callers can lie to the screeners, but ultimately its the screeners fault. The calls are stacked up when an event like Volcalls happens. I am Tennessee born and bred, so I can say this without reservation. If a redneck calls that sounds like he has a ninth grade education, all that the screener needs to do is push the button before the idiot goes on air.

"Volcalls whats your name and question for coach Kiffin." "Yeah uh ... Im Leonard ... I wanna ask at Kiffin feller about sum football." .... click ....

"Volcalls whats your name and question." "Hi, this is Leonard. I would like to ask the coach about how the players that we have will fit into the offensive scheme that is used by the Trojans." .... hold please ....

Do you see the difference?

IF he is not smart enough to have heard about Monte Kiffin then what does he know about the game of football. My question was who was the good Defensive Co. he was talking about that he fired? Surely it wasnt the won that couldnt stop anyone in the nation on 3rd and 18. Or maybe the one that on 3rd and 7 played our db's giving their receivers a 10 yd cushion. So who cares about him or the other idiot guys?? Lets just look over them and get ready to blow Neyland off the map on Saturday about 12:20..

Yeah... because we know all people with a heavy southern accent are imbeciles while those with northeastern or west coast accents are brilliant.

Go get a life... maybe Volnation needs better screening?

FWIW, I live in the midwest and don't have a heavy southern accent. Few people recognize mine at all.

what was the ticks and chiggers comment I didn't hear that one.

A caller said that CLK needed to get bit by some ticks and chiggers so it would make him more "Southern".....or something along those lines....pretty stupid!!!

because I don't care how thick CLK's or anybody's skin is, enough idiots like that eventually rubs you enough that you start wanting to find greener pastures.

I would hate to lose this staff because some boys from Deliverance called in over and over.

What's up with 99.9am?

Did they stop screening calls altogether?

That caller would have never reached the Doughnut man.

We do have some of the dumbest fans in all of America.

And the saddest thing is the stupid ones are the ones that call most often.

I thought I heard J Shagrin (spp??) get called out on the radio today for his less than stellar screening skillz.

He never really seemed too fazed by the madman that is Al Davis, he was always more focused on doing his thing, so I imagine he can handle a few stupid rednecks on Vol Calls.

CLK is a pro. He is getting paid a lot of money to be understanding of "fans" like that.

I loved Lane's response to it.

"Well Urban Meyer didn't start in the SEC either".

Or something along those lines.
