I am not going to hate on the guy. But he is a shrewd negotiator to pull 2.4 million out of the school!!!

2.4 million per year!!! What the heck is Mike Hamilton thinking?

I like the guy, he seemed genuine during the news conference, and a pretty bright guy.

I think we will have a lot of pain for a few years, and then see the light.

But 2.4 million makes no sense at all financially.

tracts most of college coach salaries. Look at the big names. I mean he makes more money than all but 20 out of the 100 coaches in the conference!!!

He makes more than spurier, pellini, paterson, gundy, davis, Chizik, Nutt and Beamer plus a a few other PROVEN coaches.

That is a crazy figure, and Hamilton should be canned for shelling out that figure. That gives them less money than last year for assistant coaches.

Not so crazy when you notice that it puts him in the middle of the pack in the SEC.

Seriously though . . . would you feel better at $2 million or $1.7 million or $1.5 million? It's just the cost of doing business.

Hamilton's desperately trying to save his job. We're lucky he didn't offer $5 million/yr to Muschamp.

If we are a top 20 job (which hopefully we still are) then you probably should be paying in the top 20. I don't see a problem.

People weren't exactly beating down the door to coach here. That may have been the number that was needed to get him, and we may have felt that we needed him bad. Who knows?

i agree i think this is a little much, for a coach who has no track record.... i however, do like the guy and pray that he has the ability to do whats he is getting paid to

$2.4 million would be a ridiculous amount to pay a guy who went 4-8 in the WAC last year.

That’s more than Kiffin got, and Kiffin had NFL experience was bringing his dad along with him.

I like Dooley and I want him to be successful. But that doesnt mean I am going to check my brain at the door.

UT fired Fulmer for going 5-7 and a year later we hire La Tech coach after he goes 4-8. If that isn't bad enough, we now offer him 2.4 million a year?? He probably has the weakest resume of any coach in the SEC at this point. I understand the fact that he was at the bottom of the list of coaches UT was interested in. But 2.4 million????

He made $65k for his athletic duties.

I can see base salary of $600k which is $100k more than spurier and then incentives totaling and extra 1 mill but that's it.

It is not about paying what he "deserves" to get in the SEC. You pay the least you can get away with to get him. I can't believe he could not have been gotten for less.

We had to find somebody who was willing to risk his career on a rebuilding project with a three-year window of success. While going up against the best programs in the country. In three days. We were in the worst negotiating position possible; there was no way that we weren't going to end up overpaying to get somebody.
