A loss is a loss. Hindsight coaching is easy.
It wasn't hindsight for me. I was screaming it at the TV screen for the 15 seconds or so leading up to the play.
I was shouting NO MISTAKES, RUN THE DAMN BALL, NO MISTAKES, RUN THE DAMN BALL.
The OP fails to include that had the play resulted in a TD, the call would have been 'genius'.
Doubtful. Most likely, with a minute left, they would have thrown 3 or 4 20-yard passes and beat us at the clock.
Hence, one of the reasons for running it on first down.
It ain't rocket science.
I understand your point 100%, but passing was working for us. We were throwing the ball all over the field and those 10 yard out routes were almost always open.
I completely see what you're saying and you have a good point, but you can't blame Clowney busting through Richardson on one play to hit Bray and force a fumble on bad play calling.
Yup, without a doubt we were throwing well.. But we should have saved that for 2nd or 3rd or 4th down. We needed to control the ball and limit the chances of mistakes on first down.
And with 3 timeouts left, that meant running. the damned. ball. We were averaging around 4 yds a rush.
i agree!
:good!:
