As a resident lurker and somewhat questionable new poster, I was wondering if you kind folks might indulge me and give me some ammo to win an argument.

Things like "in the pros", schemes...etc...

I have to somehow convince the gaggle of assorted college fans at my place of employment that the 98 Vols would have made a game against the 2001 Canes

........2001 may not be the right Canes team though, ergo the (I think) in the title. We're debating that early new century Canes team that was STACKED.

Thanks ya'll

Hell I just wish the 2001 Vols could have gotten a crack at the U....

No you don't, lol.

They would have made us look so bad. Very, very, very few teams in NCAA history could compete with the 01 Canes. The 98 nor 01 Vols are one of those teams, though.

I think 2001 team would've been better a better matchup to beat that Miami squad than the 1998 team. I just don't think the 98 team could've scored enough.

I know, Jesus couldn't beat the 01 canes. Even if we cloned a million Jesuses and they all got on the field at the same time, the canes would win. There is no way to even describe the 01 canes, and the fact their is video evidence of the canes takes all the powers of the universe to keep the film from spontaneously com busting.

Sorry man. 01 canes probably the best team ever.

I would have liked to see the 01 vols against them. I think it would have been a game. Especially if they played like they did against Michigan.

From the early posts I suppose I should just step aside and concede to the guy then ? Well I suppose you can't win'em all...

Hey we beat the Gators at the swamp when I think they were ranked #1 AHEAD of the Canes. The Canes were great, but much of the mystique is based on that Rose Bowl.

Don't sell the 98 Vols short. Much of the talent on that team was in the trenches. If you can run the ball and stop the run you can win football games. I think we could've stopped the run against Miami--not sure if we could have run the ball.

Those UT teams were very talented as well, and to say that there is no way we could of beaten them is silly to me.

Well sometimes it just sucks when your heart beats ORANGE, and the argument isn't yours to win. I got the guy on conference, tradition, and lack of sheer ghetto-ability...I just really wanted to think Al Wilson and squad would have handed an open can of sit down to the U...ehh..it is what it is I suppose...

GO VOLS....

Oh...and I hope to run into some of you guys at games.. our family has 20 year old season tix and we're there ALWAYS..

I still think we are selling ourselves short. Our 2001 squad would have matched the U with some of our own freakish NFL talent.

I'll take an SEC championship and an ass whooping in the NC game. That Miami squad had tough games, a few turnovers and any recent champ could have a shot. Let's not forget Larry Coker was on the sidelines.

The '98 and '01 teams would have had a shot at '01 miami, but would lose more times than win. zero shot at '95 nebraska.
