'15 TX PG Juwan Evans

That's what I'm hoping for. I think we need 2 pg in this class. Miller and then a high school guy.

Ty Hudson is a guy they've been in contact with for awhile, and was one of their first offers, would be a very nice get. There's always Nick Rogers who has already UOV'd who if the staff wanted, could probably get.

Right, but then the list was released and it was the same, so it ultimately was Evans list just Daniels reporting it.

I didn't know the official list was out but was meaning it was probably pretty accurate Bc Daniels was reporting it from his sources.

We know that they went full staff for him on multiple occasions this summer, meaning there was no coach present at a guy like Hudson, or Crawfords games.

I know that we went hard after Evans but u can go hard after several guys at a time. There are several different ways to accomplish that in today's technology. Football does it all the time and they have much bigger classes than basketball.

Football rarely goes full staff, it was reported multiple times we were full staff for Evans at events, and Rob Lewis numerous times said he was our biggest priority.

Like I said, Miller is a nice fall back, but I think you need a HS PG to go along side of him ideally.

Seems like this will kind of creat some clarity though....

Clemson was also after Evans, as was Virginia Tech, those 2 are eliminated. Now VTs biggest PG target is Justin Robinson who we had been involved with. Clemson's biggest target is Ty Hudson who they've already had on campus and was a guy we are also recruiting. Georgetown seems to be the front runner for Crawford currently, and he appears to be their main target.

Will be interesting to see where the staff turns to at pg

Oh definitely I feel he was our biggest priority and I think it is a bad sign that we didn't make his top 4 but unless we are brain dead as a staff we should have been recruiting others heavily as well. You are not going to get everyone you go after so u better have a very solid alternative or you won't last long at Tennessee.

Rob Lewis listed Justin robinson as a guy they were recruited hard as a fallback to Evans, what happened? He trimmed his list and cut us too.

With twitter and other social media, guys see all that staff. A guy like Robinson for example sees that we are full staff at Evans AAU games, and haven't been to see him in 3 days, they notice that stuff.

I'm curious to see who they get at PG besides Miller, Robinson cut us, Hudson seems like a Clemson lean and Crawford a Georgetown lean.

I'm really hoping CDT is not sitting down with Rob Lewis and discussing recruiting strategies. He is making logical assumptions just like we are trying to do. It's CDT's job to manage how he does his recruiting.....if he can't handle it then we hired the wrong man. There are tons of ways to make a kid feel special without being at his games....Butch sends a thousand letters at one time and makes them into puzzle pieces for the recruit to figure out. We won't really know until we see what CDT's first recruiting class looks like.

If you say so, any names of PGs that we have made feel "special"?

Football recruiting is much different than basketball, in large part because of how many targets you have in football. Butch has what, 300 offers out for 2015, Tyndall has about 20 out.

Basketball recruits look at who's in the crowd at their games, read the recent articles on Blackwell where he discusses how much it meant that Vanderbilt was a full staff for him.

I've always thought that basketball recruiting is similar to quarterback recruiting in football.

That's not all that goes into it though....I love hearing the stories that come out after recruiting is done....Kevin oneill use to hide in Tony Harris house and jump out surprising him dressed in all orange....whatever works I guess....not all recruits are alike and it's CDT's job to get it done....no reason to panic till we see who he gets. If he gets a poor recruiting class then i won't feel we made the right hire and it will be up to him to prove us wrong. We need him to be successful, I don't want to start over with another new coach.

I'm definitely not panicking, just not a great sign that we put that much into it and didn't make the top 4. PG recruiting is critical, and the best ones usually get snatched up as they've been targeted for awhile, just hoping we don't have to keep going further and further down the list.

It is August not November. Bad news is finishing second in November when there are no real fall backs. Unlike our last staff, we actually have three guys beside the head coach that are aggressive recruiters. VQ had a list of potential point guards a few weeks ago. You can bet they were getting lots of attention.

I would guess DT would review what transpired that would cause them to think they were in better shape than they were. That conversation would be one with the assistants in house. That would be normal. Behind the scenes kids are moving up and down on our board and visa versa all the time.

I always thought people needed to slow the roll on a new basketball coach and recruiting. Because he put together a decent roster in a short amount of time, people think Tyndall can land blue chippers in 2015. Assembling the roster included transfers and JUCO's. Recruiting high level high schoolers is different. I believe Tyndall can do it, but it takes time. I said this with Martin and I will repeat it. Basketball recruiting is not like football. You need to develop that 2 year relationship unless you are a blue blood program. As long as the product is exciting and competent this year, I think Tyndall will be fine. The 2015 class is probably more akin to Butch Jones' first class. JMO.

I can agree with that but it does need to be a solid class.

Now that Evans is gone this is how I hope/envision our 2015 class to look

PG: Dequon Miller
SG: Donte Fitzpatrick
SF: Dwayne Bacon/ Chris Clarke
PF: Luke Maye
C: Nick Marshall/Jonathan Nwanko

Would be hell of a class to get all of them.

I supposed much of it rests with how one would consider a solid class. I, personally, felt that our defected class was very solid. We had good pieces with high potential. Not one of those guys would have been a program changer immediately, but definitely in time.

I don't think Donnie is going to settle for mediocre players, but I do think he'll have a solid class lined up. I think it'll be easier for him to pick up 100-200 type players for now (solid IMO) and when real relationships are established we may consistently get the 50-100 players. He may every now and then pull a blue chipper. I think some are expecting a good class. Few are expecting a great class and most are expecting a solid class.
