WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR TENNESSEE?

With only Cameron Sutton having any real playing experience at cornerback set to be a Vol past this upcoming season the cornerback position is a very real need for the Vols.

Even though the Vols have options like Malik Foreman and freshmen Emmanuel Moseley Evan Berry and Rashaan Gaulden there is no proven depth so grabbing a true cornerback in the class of 2015 was very important as neither Berry nor Gaulden were full-time cornerbacks in high school.

Moving forward look for the Vols to stay involved with several other cornerbacks. Tennessee will continue to pursue Jeremy McDuffie who was on campus Saturday for the Vols' Orange Carpet Day. Mook Reynolds will also be an option as he continues to tell Volquest he wants to visit Tennessee.

It will be interesting to see how the Cameron Ordway recruitment works itself out. The Midstate defensive back is seen more and more as a safety recently and not so much a cornerback.

Tennessee will also continue to recruit junior college cornerback Justin Martin as well as several other junior college cornerbacks, especially if the younger cornerbacks don't work out and the Vols need immediate help going into 2015.

"Nice grab by the Volunteers. I had a chance to see him a few weeks back and he has taken his game up another level. It was right after he picked up his Ohio State offer after he went up to Columbus. I'd been hearing he was having a pretty strong spring and he showed really well at a 7on7 tournament in Dallas in early June. I'd been hearing quite a few reports but when I saw him in Dallas at the 7on7 tournament it was pretty evident he had taken his game up a notch.

"He is currently a 5.5 3-star but I see him making a nice jump in the 3-stars in the next evaluation meetings. He was at the top of his game. He had a nice swagger to him that day. He was often assigned the other team's top guy and he won far more than he lost. He has some nice long arms and fluid hips. He was quick out of his break and while he was aggressive he was always under control. He's also a hard worker and plays for a great high school program in Dallas.

"Like I said he got pretty hot there in the spring and he has some nice size. I'm willing to be he checks in at a bit bigger than his listed 165."

This kid is a stud! We'll be hearing his name (for very good reasons) a lot over the next several years.

Welcome to Big Orange Country!

You can't coach up a player into the first round

So a player can't have a solid, but not elite, skill set to begin with and improve on that with coaching? If Dennard had sure-fire, can't miss NFL 1st round talent from the get go, I don't think 119 schools would've missed on him.

That's the difference between the great recruiting coaches and us (fans or spectators). It's real easy to pick out the 5* gems when watching kids play. There is no special talent in doing that. The great ones are the guys that can look at kids and project what their potential is 2-3 years down the road, due to certain intangibles, and do it consistently. Then successfully help the players reach that potential (coach em up).

"I've been blessed to coach this kid the last 3 years. He is a tremendous athlete on our 5A State Championship team. His 3 Star ranking is really a joke. I've had the opportunity to coach several D1 db's over the years and he is the best of the bunch including one in the NFL and a couple more that might get their shot in a couple of years. Coach Martinez followed him around practice his 1st visit and was stone faced as he asked me questions about him. No smile, no reaction just very business like. The offer came right after that practice. On his 2nd visit he was joking and laughing with Miller and I knew then that he really wanted him. Miller is a high character kid from a really good family. I am not an SEC guy but Tennessee has a new fan. Y'all got a good one.

On another note.....I raise and hunt blueticks so I am partial to your mascot."

SIAP, this is a post from Miller's high school coach on 247. Good stuff.

Good posts. I trust Martinez: if he really likes a guy, the guy must be legit. I recall Martinez being completely stoked about Cam Sutton, and he was rated like a run of the mill 3-star.

Between Mixon last year, and Dormady, Miller and Phillips this year, the Vols are beginning to shop in Texas groceries! Considering attending some of these games regaled in Tennessee Orange!

I will say that Cedar Hill is the real deal. Probably could beat some 1-AA teams. He is playing big boy football.

Desoto too...that area is stocked with athletes...part of the reason Deion Sanders is trying to establish that private football school there...when I hear an argument about the relative competition of Dormady vs Gibson, I laugh at the inference that Florida is exponentially better than the Lone Star State...it's either fairly close or dead even...Texas stocks a lot of rosters and a 3 star here would be a 4 in many states.

They struggled developing since 2010. Before that they had 9 straight 10 win seasons, the only team to do that in that span. And as of 2012 they had 11 active DB's in the NFL, I'd say they know a little bit about DB's. Your comment implying Texas knows nothing about DB talent was baseless.

As a Texas resident, jmo in no way, shape or form should a Volunteer defend texas university. Their fans are snobs who bail on the cattle as soon as things do not go their way. They sell out season tickets, but exit halfway through 3rd quarter if they are losing...

As my son likes to say, we do not root for longhorns, we barbeque them :) (he is 12)

Just watched his hudl film.

Pretty good technician at the CB position for a jr. It's evident he has great coaching and someone is teaching him the details of the CB position... Specifically with eye discipline.

Not trying to bash vols but he is a better technician as a JR in HS than Coleman/Gordon were as JR's in college.

It doesn't look like he is going to wow anyone at a combine but excellent pickup IMO.

Edit: I love when CB's have a lot of highlight tape of shutting down routes. True highlight for this position.
