'15 NM QB Zach Gentry

I don't think we have to have a 4.5 40 QB. I would be happy with one that primarily passes but can also scramble and pick up a few yards too. Either way, I'm glad we have some great looking prospects interested in us.

There really aren't very many 4.5 Dual Threat guys. RGIII is the only guy that has truly run a 4.50 or better. Kaep, Wilson, Cam, Manziel, Locker, Manuel, and Shaw were all slower than that.

So there is still no benefit in burning a redshirt if the said player can help the team win? The object of the game is winning. If he comes in and is the best QB on the roster day one, play him. If he is the second best QB and the number one goes down, you gotta play him.

Moot point, anyhow. What I was intially getting at is he is at a much higher chance of playing earlier than Jennings. And if so, there will be separation of a year between the two.

I think it it probably the exception rather than the rule, but there is something to be said for allowing a QB to burn a redshirt to help his team win. Especially if he brings a unique skill-set.

Tim Tebow didn't redshirt, and played significantly as a freshman, helping lead UF to a title.

Not sure Gentry brings that unique a skill-set, but you get the point.

I agree with your premise, however, Locker is a 4.5 guy. He ran consistent 4.5's at the combine and at his pro-day. Titans coaches and players say he runs a 4.4. Unfortunately he is always hurt. He may not be as good as the other players you listed but he is the fastest in a straight-line of everyone you named.

4.59 was his best time at the Combine. I said 4.50, but techincally it is a "4.5."

New article on Rivals. Seems like he really liked his trip to Oklahoma St. Plans to be at Bama's Spring game and then to Texas.

"Oklahoma State in my eyes I think they're definitely right up there right now. I've got a good feeling," said Gentry.

"I think that obviously those four programs have the upper hand just because I will have visited there," he said. "My original plan was to visit the schools that I was attracted to offensively, you know, their scheme and at the same time the schools that were showing the most feedback and interest in me."

"So the schools that were recruiting me the hardest I felt that I needed to do them justice and go see them if there's a mutual interest level. So these are pretty much the four schools that have consistently shown me a lot of interest and schools that I'm interested in as well."

-Rivals

Will commit to a school at the end of May or early June.

Kapernick, Wilson, cam, manziel, and locker all have ran in the 4.5s.. So maybe u mean 4.4s..?

Vick also made a ton of money based on hype. He results in the field have been average.

No doubt. However on just speed, we haven't seen a QB as fast as him in a long time. If Vick would have gotten with a better team, with better coaching early on in his career, he would have been a legitimate superstar.

I don't think coaching and his team was his problem. Character, bad decisions, and hanging with the wrong crowd may have been more of a factor. JMHO

Successful QB'ing in the league is as much about processing information quickly as it is physical ability and execution.

Examples: PM, Brady, Brees, and now Wilson. They all have obvious physical shortcomings. Each can read a D and go through progressions as fast as a Cray computer. Each have at least one SB ring.

This ^^^^

IMO if Vick had applied himself and put in the work, he would've been one of the greats. Just didn't have the work ethic because everything up to that point had came so easy to him.

VY was pretty electric as a running QB when he first got to the league. Also felt entitled and like he didn't have to work hard.

Back on Gentry though, I didn't get the warm and fuzzies from Hubbs this morning on 104.5 when he was talking about him. Didn't really say anything negative, just didn't sound positive. Maybe it was just me being paranoid?

Sounds to me like things are trending more toward Nunez. I guess we will see.

We have to be patient here. Gentry has said that he is going to make his visits this spring before he makes a decision. We want a QB that makes wise decisions. That's what he is trying to do.
