'15 JUCO RB Alvin Kamara (UT commit 6/21/14)

I know a few high school coaches in my area that have totally backed up the Chattanooga article. One in particular I know had trouble even getting a response from anyone on the staff. Dooley for whatever reason absolutely ignored the state of TN. Recruiting is about relationships, highschool coaches have a relationship with their kids and if the TN staff hasnt built relationships with those coaches they can not just swoop in when they do have a talented kid and get him. Not when other schools have built those relationships.

My suggestion would be to schedule a day trip to the university if they have time and take 3 copies of the highlight film with you. Make yourself visible.

It worked for me. Look at Croomster now. I chose the schools I liked for him and the rest came by camps ratings. Once his name was out there then his recruitment went from one extreme to the other.

This is a short quick paced process:crazy::loco: and will drive you nuts if you don't understand it.

One last thing. I doubt very seriously if Dooley ignored a TN based kid if they were SEC quality. We have Drae Bowles, bullock , the kid from Cleveland TN committed. just off the top of my head.

A lot of times too, people think they should be recruited based on talent and no works. Meaning... they have the talent, bad character, too many demands on the recruiter, and bad grades. I've seen that countless times. There are more steps in this staircase than we care to climb ifyou're not directly involved.

I understand that, and it would be great if more parents took control like that but the fact is most don't. Ive been following recruiting for a long time and a good relationship between a university and the high school coaches in that state is extremely important. A high school doesn't want to never hear from a staff and then one year they have a stud and they come waltzing in expecting to sign the kid. It don't work like that.

right.

recruiting wasn't fun until we committed to UT.. then you only have to focus on ONE! It's like a marriage.

I've gotta run, but one thing I can say......

I'm sure happy Jason, Alvin, Lorenzo, Ben, Tommy , Myles and Kevin are Norcross boys.

Coaches see Norcross as a feed ground for D-1 athletes no matter what sport.

This is why I would have made a horrible military recruiter. You see me standing here in my dress blues. You know who the h3ll I am and where my office is. If you're not interested enough in my prestigious organization to make contact with me, then have a nice life. We've been good without you in the past, we'll continue into the future. High school coaches getting spoiled by brown nosing college coaches isn't "recruiting".

preach!

MZTERRY, I thought Dooley was a good recruiter but it seemed like he struggled to get players motivated for games. What is your opinion on what went wrong ?

Let me put this baby to rest before y'all piss me off about Dooley.

UNDERSTAND THIS CYBER COACHES!! i don't give damn what school you're at or being offerred by, if you don't show interest in that school they move the hell on from you; that simple. So! If 5* instate kid thinks he/she is better than UT and don't show interest then screw'em. Recruiting is two way street. i dont give damn what area a coach recruits in. All of the freakin' coaches can be assigned an area, but dammit if there's no SEC players in TEnnessee, then UT is going to go to Georgia, Florida, VA, HI, CO and get the best... pretty damn simple. Ya' feel me???! All this sh*t about Dooley not being able to recruit is bull*it. Don't blame your noninterest in UT on Dooley not recruiting.

Recruiting isn't about kissing your behind. Its about the best relationship you can build for you and your education and skillset. Bottom line. So the next mo'fo that come on here say something about Dooley not being able to recruit... I'm goin' in on you, so let this post be your warning.

There are many facets to recruiting and these high school kids get the big head when they're in high school thinkin' they some type of fk'n superstar and when they get to college they find that they're peons... U better humble your arrogant ass before you get your feelings hurt bruh. If anything, you better take heed of the whirlpool of sh*t that's going on at UT, and understand that this a money game. It ain't as much about these arrogant ass kids as they want to make it.

NEXT?!?!?

Thank you, Mz Terry.

Recruiting is the life-blood of a program. Recent media (articles, internet chatter, tweets, etc) reports have raised questions and speculation regarding the recruiting efforts by the previous coach and staff. Among the them were quotes by Tennessee HS coaches stating the "lack of contact, follow-up, or interest by Tennessee (staff)" with coaches and players. The thought or possibility of these reports being true inflamed many in the fan base.

Speaking only for myself, I may not have always agreed with certain actions, methods, or procedures but I supported the team nonetheless, and never felt it warranted to belittle or denigrate Coach Dooley or his staff and wish them the best in their future endeavors.

I welcome and support our new staff. Can't wait 'til fall!

Here's to family, friends, tail-gate parties, and victory!

Happy Holiday's to all VN!

Go Vols!

i dont disagree and i don't know because i've never been in the locker room before games and I never asked my boys about that either.

ummmm.... good question.

I was trying to hold my peace, but someone emailed me about that same article so I went and read it, which was my mistake, but I had to make it clear.

It doesn't matter what school is recruiting a kid.... when a school offers and you may be intersted... pick up the phone and call and see if there's something there.

Relationships with these schools matter. I have one with EVERY school my son was interested in whether they became his top 3 , 5 or 10.... I can pick up the phone right now and talk to ALL of those coaches.

RELATIONSHIPSmatter.

And if anyone goes and read that article.. the first thing from BJ's mouth was "Winning comes first"; in translation for the cyber idiots... F'k where that kid come from... can he play? a coaches job is to find the best and recruit the best he can get.

Again sorry MZTERRY. Didn't mean to put you on the spot that way and hijack the Kamara thread. Just thought your opinion would be good to get. My hope is that Croomster and all the VOls transition well and win some stinkin' games! Lord knows they deserve it!

my response to that is this:

Don't believe everything you read.

2- There are so many folks on the "HATE DOOLEY" bandwagon that they're going to hold on to whatever is being said about him right now whether true or not

3- I don't trust a high school coach as far as I can spit. (with the exception of REGGIE STANCIL@ NHS) the rest can kick rocks. Manage your kids life it's the parent responsibility

4- Learn this process for yourself. "IT's on the internet" lol all the NCAA rules are on the internet for all of us to read, print and analyze.

5- I think BJ is hype man. He's like the dj in the club to get the party started, so I'm just waiting. I ain't no party pooper. I'm standing in this long ass line like everybody else.

This type of recruiting in college may have worked 20 years ago but not today. You sit back and let your schools "prestige" do the talking for you meanwhile the Ed Orgeron's of the world are running around with a big bottle of hot sauce. You'll be behind real quick. I honestly think thats what got Fulmer.

Dooley can't recruit. That, in addition to other things, is why he doesn't have a job.

This. Other things meaning his inability to coach. The coach who had the worst 3 year run in UT history doesn't deserve people defending his lack of competency. Whether that be parents, alumni or the Queen of England. Dooley failed in every facet of the game and recruiting, guy should have never ever ever been given this opportunity.

I think this year his staff that we expected to really contribute to recruiting failed miserably. On top of the article about hs coaches and UT's lack of presence in these areas , Dooley frankly disregarded top recruits despite our understanding of their interest including multiple recruiting reporters. I think now with Dooley being gone , if Dooley can recruit as well as he did despite his arrogance, I will be surprised to see what Butch does.

Dooley failing during games is absolutely true. However, he built up depth and has recruited some SEC talent to our Vols...or maybe you forgot that we were around 10 scholarships short of the 85 Limit and were starting walk-ons his first year here?

Sure, he did refill the roster compared to what we had. But any kind of bodies would have been better. We had nothing there. Dooley brought in some good recruits(Hunter, Rodgers, Maggitt, Johnson, Bowles, Croom, Pig, O'brien, etc) but it has become very clear since he left that he really dropped the ball on quite a few prospects. It's almost as if if they weren't willing to commit on his timetable then he dropped them and moved on. Levenberry would have come here had we stayed on him and Bellamy publicly stated if we offered he would commit but we never did so he committed to FSU are just a few of the examples. So in the end he ultimately failed in the recruiting front because even he could have done much better on the recruiting trail but didn't seem to put in the work required.

I thought the Hill/Cross trade was a mistake. Wasn't a fan of Bourque from the beginning. Would have loved to hang on to Peters.

But the 2012 class was actually really solid. The 2013 class wasn't going that well, but I think that's a reflection of years, literally, of negative recruiting and a poor on-field product.

Trashing Dooley's recruiting ability is revisionist. He did good work given the obstacles he faced.
