'15 JUCO RB Alvin Kamara (UT commit 6/21/14)

You're commenting on a situation that really doesn't have a thing to do with your program. Now what you think and what we're hearing are two different things. And we won't get any top recruits with him getting beat down by rival after rival. I understand you don't want Gruden at UT and that's fine but Gruden has more of chance of coming to UT than Saban to Bama the year he left the Dolphins.

I could care less where Gruden goes and unlike so many on here that feel the only way a program can be successful is if their rival is down, I actually want to see UT back as a top team. I would prefer to play UT with UA and UT both ranked in the top 10. Sorry find no thrill in a rival that is not equal when playing. Really makes for a better game when both are very good.:hi:

And regarding Gruden if he is an option for UT all I said I have not seen it except on message boards, which at best is speculation. If there is a link that has him saying interest in UT or a legit source claiming that even UT is looking at him please provide because I would love to read it. Sorry I do not follow the UT football program as much as recruiting. And yes I think Gruden would be a great hire for the program if it comes down to it.

The gruden talk is all fan speculation. Nothing more. It needs to stop. Coach Dooley and his team still have games on the schedule. I wish the fans understood it. Now,,,Coach Dooley,,go reel in Alvin.

What's the latest on Alvin Kamara? Is it still down to Georgia and Alabama?
-- Jared, Merietta, Ga.

Kamara was slated to take an unofficial visit to Tuscaloosa for Saturday's game against Texas A&M, but ended up scraping his plans at the last minute. While there's not much to read into the decision not go attend the game, the more he's on campus, the better the chances for the Tide. His initial plan was to decide in September, but his high school season has interfered with his visit plans. If there's any edge right now, I give it to Georgia, but only because of the crowded depth chart at running back for the Tide. The Bulldogs have some talented backs, but don't have any 2013 commitments at Kamara's position. He has said all along that he intends to take a visit to Oregon as well, but I think we're going to be tracking him into early next year before he makes a commitment

First, IMO, hopefully we will not get Kamara or anyone else until we settle the question of who will be the HC at Tennessee next year. I say hopefully because the only commits we are likely to get before then are 2* or 3* types that we all hope we don't get. We have enough of those already.

Second, again IMO, we will not get a "headliner" type HC willing to come here. Not Gruden, nor Stoops, nor any other big name. Until we solve the Athletics/Academic fiasco, no big name coach will come here, especially with the irrationally impatient fan base we have.

I don't even think a good, solid up-n-comer would take the job right now -- it would be a career killer much like Vanderbilt used to be and for largely the same reason -- athletics are secondary to and under the control of the academic side of the school.

I look for Hart to cast some bait out there for a while but he will likely come to the same conclusions. Then he will be faced with 2 options: 1) bring in a second tier coach or a coordinator at a good program, or 2) ride with Dooley and find an established DC with strong credentials and make him an offer he cannot refuse.

The second choice (Dooley) is far cheaper and can be easily reversed after one year, fully paid for by the decrease in Dooley's buyout. The caveat is that if he goes in that direction he will have to go all out to support Dooley enough to convince recruits that Dooley will be here for them.

In the meantime, Hart can expend all his energy on trying to get Haslam to fix the athletic/academic side of the equation. If he is successful in that accomplishment, he will be in a position to hire a big name coach should Dooley fall on his face.

Jay Graham will be in the Atlanta area on Monday to check in on a few guys, including Alvin Kamara as the Vols try and stay in that one. He'll be in the Midstate Tuesday to see Jalen Reeves-Maybin. Reeves-Maybin is scheduled to have shoulder surgery around Dec. 10 to repair the torn Labrum in his right shoulder.

this would be sweet to get a late push to get Kamara. I have wrote him off almost going to be a long shot to land him.

My Dad knows Kamara's parents. We went to the playoff game here against the Wildcats (I live in Camden GA) tonight and Kamara's mother told my Dad he is not going to Tennessee because of the coaching debacle. Can't really blame him.

Easy out....he was never coming to Tennessee anyway.

I know we are out on Kamara, but man, he would be a perfect fit with his skillset in most offenses we would run under Jones.

Terrible that Dooley couldn't do his job, but Butch should salvage half of the prospects that we are looking at.

It appears that Kamara made his decision long before this hire or the hiring "debacle." I don't believe that TN was ever in it for him.

You are probably correct. Kamara had a good night with about 175 rushing yards and a lot of return yards. Don't know the final stats. Norcross plays in the State championship game next week. I was able to watch their game on the internet tonight.

He was beastin' last night...trucked the kicker on a kickoff return! He probably had 300+ all-purpose yards. It stinks that we don't have a shot, as I agree he would be dynamic in Butch Jones' type of offense; however, he will be dynamic wherever he goes. Good luck to the young man...he has a good head on his shoulders and a great support group around him. Let's hope we can get in with Autry and Lorenzo Carter (both will be studs wherever they choose to go in 2014).

Amen. Kamara was a boss last night. Would love to see him at TN. Maybe he'll take another look with the new offense, but either way, I hope our coaches have Miles Autry and Carter on the radar. So happy for these boys and hope they win it all next Sat.

I see that you are from Norcross...what's the word on Autry's knee injury? MzT said most likely just a sprain and would be ready to go for the title game. Was just wondering if there was any change after a possible MRI or further evaluation.
