East Mississippi Community College defensive tackle D.J. Jones continues to develop a strong relationship with Tennessee defensive line coach Steve Stripling. The veteran defensive line coach was by EMCC to check on Jones during a spring practice and Stripling has been developing that relationship for some time now."I know him from back when I was in high school. He started coming to my school once Butch Jones got the job when I was a senior," Jones explained. "As soon as coach Jones got there I got in contact with coach Strip."

"It's really good just to know that I've got someone staying with me," Jones explained. "Some of the other schools made their choices and left me in the dust and now they've come back, but Tennessee has always been with me."

"We've talked more on the phone the last few weeks, really. I'm in contact with the whole staff, pretty much," Jones explained. "They are high energy, that explains it all right there. They have a winning mentality. I just see them going in there and changing that program."

Jones is familiar with both instate schools from his home state of South Carolina and visited both while in high school. "I didn't live too far from Clemson so I was there for like every other game," Jones explained. "My sister attended South Carolina so I've been to a few games with her. "It's really unique with the hill. It's a really unique thing in college football, the stadium is crazy. "South Carolina is about the same, if not crazier. When they play Sandstorm it goes crazy."

Jones says he's taking it day by day and will narrow it to 10, then to 5 this summer, and decide in December.

Last year he had 49 tackles, 8 sacks, 8 TFL, 1 FF, and 1 FR as a freshman.

On the same team, Alabama players DJ Pettway and Jarran Reed had the following stats.

Pettway: 47 tackles, 11.5 sacks, 7 TFL, 1 FF
Reed: 66 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 2 TFL, 1 FR

That is a monster freshman season for DJ. If you watch his highlight film, he is the most agile 305 you will ever see. He can run straight-line and move laterally like a WDE.

Would love to see CBJ get him in Orange along with McKenzie at DT for 2015. As a lot of others have mentioned, the miss juco scene has not been favorable for UT lately. Tough to get a kid out of there once the handlers get into these kids heads.

McKenzie and Jones are probably 2 of the 3 best DT's in the country.

I don't have a good feeling on this one, I see he really appreciates our Coaches helping him get to Juco and staying in touch the whole time. I just feel like we are going to get burnt on this one. I believe in our coaches but the kid will make his own choice.

Most likely Auburn or Alabama, just because we hate those cousin lovers.

I hope I'm wrong, this kid would be one of the top 2 kids we sign this year most likely.

It's so funny reading the first few pages of this thread with ppl doubting DJ and CBJ, and hating that we were going after him because of his non rating, but now ppl are saying he's TOO good.. Lol

He isn't going to South Carolina. It will be Tennessee or Clemson.

Also, I don't think South Carolina will land Lewis either. It will be Alabama, Auburn, or Tennessee.

I thought Sawyer didn't academically qualify. Is that the case, or did I totally imagine that?

If only we would have had that Atlanta sports academy that Dews is going too right now, I think DJ would be ours.
