1 + 2 = 7 ^

Not a cheek fan, but, having been in and around academia...truthfully the stereotype of liberal academes is overstated.

Not a Cheek sympathizer...but, i sincerely doubt potshotting him as a liberal, further, anyone's political alliances have anything to do with said current predicament.

Just my, not necessarily accurate, interpretation of Cheek. Just pokin a little fun, but I'm more than likely right about his political alliance given that he's in higher education. A conservative university administration is a very, very rare thing. You gotta admit that. Anyway, duly noted, lets get back to football now

Several in Hurd's circle of friends are Vols fans, including his girlfriend. That is not the end all, but every bit of influence could make a difference in the end.

Good to know. I have read he grew up a Vols fan. Fingers crossed. Vuck Fandy by the way.

I'm not upset I gave Dooley the benefit of the doubt, because I still believe that is the best way to approach things.... But boy was I wrong

Me too. Liked his Southern Heritage, his father, that he used to watch Johnny Majors show, etc. Wanted to believe, but like you, I was wrong

IMO you can't put Vonn Bell on Dooley. Vonn Bell wants a championship and he thinks that he can get that quicker at tOSU. I don't think Dooleys firing/recruiting had any bearing on VB's decision. JMHO.

If AL had a spot, VB would be there IMO.

Not defending Dooley, he tried, he failed...he gone.

Yeah I agree with this post....Vonn Bell, in the end, apparently wanted a chance to win championships and just felt he would have a better chance right away at OSU...I think that was going to be his angle all along...and I completely understand it....

Actually if winning Championships were foremost on his recruiting mind ,he should have signed with Bama.None of the Ohio state stuff makes any sense at all unless there was something there that does not meet the smell test...jmo.

I'm willing to bet that sitting on his a** does constitute a breach b/c I'm positive one of the terms of his contract was a duty to recruit.

Will a lawsuit happen? No. Would a lawsuit like this be a winner? At best, maybe.

I wonder, though, what would happen if UT sent him a letter asking to renegotiate the terms of his buyout with the threat that if he refuses UT would file suit.

It's one thing to allege that it happened, its another to actually prove that it happened. You're not going to convince a judge that Dooley was breaching his contract b/c he didn't pursue certain recruits--if anything, Dooley exhibited poor judgement by not pursuing recruits like Bell & Hurd more seriously but, actual breach of contract?

I doubt it very much/

Tend to agree. The only thing about this issue is that Dooley's effort (or lack of effort) would be a fact issue that gets punted to a jury, and the trial would be in East Tennessee. So... I wonder what 12 average Knoxvillians could be convinced of. :)

Seriously though, it would be wise for the University to take its financial lumps, accept its own responsibility for hiring the man in the first place, and just for get about the whole thing. A lawsuit like this is a Pandora's box, and UTK would basically be forcing DD to get nasty. I'm pretty sure we don't want out dirty laundry aired publicly.

It's a civil matter so it wouldn't be up to a jury, it'd be up to a judge, either way...it's never happening.

I work in Higher Ed....there is no doubt in my mind that a "conservative-leaning" admin is more the exception than the rule.

Civil matters go to juries if there are questions of fact that need to be resolved. Hope this helps!

Maybe, but I really dont think he wanted to play at Bama....really either one of those schools would make perfect sense coming from that mentality...after all, if OSU had not been on probation this year Bama would have been watching the NCS like us...from the living room couch....JMO...

From what I heard -- this is purely based on the Bama 247 and Rivals sites, so could be absolutely incorrect, just what I've heard -- Bama essentially told Vonn Bell that 1) they weren't sure if they'd have a spot for him (seeing as they supposedly valued both Eddie Jackson, who did sign with them, and Antonio Conner, who didn't end up with them, more than Bell), and 2) they didn't feel Bell was physical enough to play safety in their system, they wanted him to play CB.

^If those claims by Andrew Bone and the Bama Rivals/247 sites are correct, Bama basically pushed Bell away -- in which case the choice was down to TENN and OSU. It would also explain why in post-decision interviews he rarely if ever even brings up Bama except to say that he wants to beat them. It seems likely to me that he felt spurned by them. It certainly explains a lot to me from the perspective that if you guys remember correctly, he was all but ready to make his college choice prior to the HS FB State Championship game, then after the game he suddenly decided that he needed to make official visits before deciding. Nearly every insider I read prior to that said he was all Bama. So what changed? IMO what Andrew Bone said changed, the two things I mentioned above soured him on Bama (who was for a long time his primary choice imho). I know there are quite a few Bama fans on here, so they can correct me if I'm just blowing smoke. Andrew Bone was quite fervent on both of those points, though.

But anyway, I'm sure you guys are tired of talking about Bell. Hurd is a beast -- I've heard a lot of comparisons to Ty Isaac, but I think Hurd will be 100x the RB Isaac is.

Well Duke if you believe in that circular logic about Bama backing off I have a budget that I would like for you to vote on up here in Washington ,DC

I have a cousin who plays high school ball at one of the Knoxville schools. We talked about the competition he has seen in camps and things and two guys he and my uncle mentioned were Jalen Manning and Hurd. They said they'll see them again this spring and summer, my assumption would be 7 on 7 camps. Anyway if I hear anything about him I will definitely post it.
