Dooley failed and failed miserably. On the field and in recruiting. I am in no way defending him. Glad he is gone.

IMO VB was destined for tOSU or Bama regardless.

And that's exactly right, it's your opinion. Unless VBs father and coach are being dishonest, the evidence/facts disprove your opinion. They said it was on Drools so since they were intimately involved in the decision I'll go with what they said. Only logical to do so. And that's the last time I will ever comment on VB....

If I can recall correctly, didn't Bell's father say sometime after Bell's announcement that if Dooley had tried to actually recruit Vonn he would probably be a Vol instead of a F**keye?

Or that is what he said to get the UT fans off his back.

Even his girlfiend got suckered into thinking he was headed to UT.

probably nothing new but theres a new article on Hurd on ESPN

Article is awesome imo, so I'm posting the whole damn thing.

Jalen Hurd felt like a valued guest on his latest visit. That wasn't always the feeling he had when it came to the University of Tennessee.

While visiting UT, the ESPN Watch List tailback was doted on by first-year head coach Butch Jones. It was a much different experience than he had with former UT coach Derek Dooley. The relationship between Hurd and the Vols has changed dramatically since Tennessee's coaching change following the 2012 season.

"It's a 100 times better than it was," the 6-foot-3, 195-pound tailback from Hendersonville (Tenn.) Beech said. "The previous staff, I didn't really have much of a relationship with. This staff has shown me a lot of love. I really appreciate that."

In desperate need of a power tailback, Jones and his staff gave Hurd the treatment he warranted. Jones had Hurd sit next to him during the Tennessee-Kentucky basketball game last Saturday. Hurd was impressed by the attention.

"I thought it was great," Hurd said. "I got to meet with Coach Jones and the whole coaching staff. I really enjoyed it."

With plenty of schools in pursuit, he's planning several visits this spring and summer. Ohio State and Florida are on the list. He said he'll visit Knoxville again to watch a spring practice.

Hurd said he would like to see the Volunteers improve this fall. After three straight losing seasons, he's not so worried about wins and losses, just improvement.

"It's very important," Hurd said. "I think Coach Jones will do a great job. In previous years they've dropped off a little bit. They probably need to do better. I just need to see improvement."

Hurd admits he grew up a Tennessee fan. He remembers cheering for former Tennessee tailback Montario Hardesty, who now plays for the Cleveland Browns.
If Hurd selects Tennessee, he would like to follow in Hardesty's footsteps. Some have questioned whether Hurd will play tailback in college. Apparently, Tennessee has not.

"Tennessee wants to keep me at tailback," Hurd said. "They like the way I run the ball. They said they have no reason why I can't play tailback."
Handling a potential position switch will be key for any school recruiting Hurd. He's intent on playing tailback in college.

"It's very important," he said. "I grew up playing tailback all of my life. It feels like home to me and I really don't want to switch positions."

Oh boy, another UT fan.......just kidding fellas :) I'm really impressed with CBJ and the guys so far. And honestly for the first time in a few years, I truly believe we will improve. It doesn't seem like there's a "but...'' with this team now, seems like 100% accountability, and that's impressive.

I know it's beating a dead horse but WTH was Dooley doing?!?!

Butch doing work. Love it.

With all of these stores surfacing about Dooley and co.'s lack of recruiting effort, I secretly hope that UT sues him for breach of contract and claims he was fired for cause. Then UT doesn't have to pay him that $5M buyout and we might be able to start building up our cash reserves.

Dooley has a law degree and is a very smart & articulate person, I doubt very seriously he did anything which would constitute breach of contract....even if he was sitting on his a** when it came to recruiting.

I'm willing to bet that sitting on his a** does constitute a breach b/c I'm positive one of the terms of his contract was a duty to recruit.

Will a lawsuit happen? No. Would a lawsuit like this be a winner? At best, maybe.

I wonder, though, what would happen if UT sent him a letter asking to renegotiate the terms of his buyout with the threat that if he refuses UT would file suit.

Tend to agree. The only thing about this issue is that Dooley's effort (or lack of effort) would be a fact issue that gets punted to a jury, and the trial would be in East Tennessee. So... I wonder what 12 average Knoxvillians could be convinced of. :)

Seriously though, it would be wise for the University to take its financial lumps, accept its own responsibility for hiring the man in the first place, and just for get about the whole thing. A lawsuit like this is a Pandora's box, and UTK would basically be forcing DD to get nasty. I'm pretty sure we don't want out dirty laundry aired publicly.

Great, logical, fiscally responsible thought. But those bed wetting conflict resolution panty waste libs like Cheek would never have the stones to even consider it much less do it.

1 + 2 = 7 ^

Not a cheek fan, but, having been in and around academia...truthfully the stereotype of liberal academes is overstated.

Not a Cheek sympathizer...but, i sincerely doubt potshotting him as a liberal, further, anyone's political alliances have anything to do with said current predicament.

So Hurd was a fan, he stayed with Kelly Jr who we know is a lifelong fan. They talked about playing together pointed out good and bad things together.

The Berry twins are now TN leans according to VQ.

I think this class could come together sooner than later.

and i can tell u from experience not all "liberals are panty waists". u might take the blinders off and see that outside of knox county exists a world in which another school of thought pervades or at least exists.

not saying i agree or disagree. but, i know plenty of folks i consider not pantywaists, pretty much badasses who consider themselves moderate liberals. juss saying

Several in Hurd's circle of friends are Vols fans, including his girlfriend. That is not the end all, but every bit of influence could make a difference in the end.

It was not like Dooley was not recruiting, that is until mid-October, when the wheels fell off the wagon. Dooley recruited the old fashion way of keeping some distance between the staff and the recruit.

The new style is to smother the kids with attention.
