'14 TN DB Rashaan Gaulden (UT Signee 2/5/14)

McNeil hasn't tackled well all year. And until he starts wrapping up he'll be basically scrub material. He's got a nose for the ball but if he's not a terror in the run game he's not what he's advertised to be to me. He needs to start playing disciplined football for us.

Well he is a true soph so I'm not throwing in the towel on him just yet. I mean he made the field as a frosh so multiple coaches see something. He's got Lawson for another off season and Martinez to continue his development so I am actually optimistic that he'll be much improved next year and be a huge contributor as a back up to TKjr. :)

Some things shouldn't have to be taught. He's been getting ran through for a couple of years now. He still doesn't want to just wrap up all game. Or cut the dudes if you don't want to tackle right.

He should be a top-100 player. Doubt the recruiting services give him such a large bump because they rarely like to admit they mis-evaluated a player early on.

he is too young to give up on but he has struggled recently and so i wouldnt mind seeing if he can gain 20 pounds and trying him at LB - I like the idea of him playing close to the LOS like the other poster suggested

My friend that I spoke about that is a coach for Brentwood that they played a few weeks ago was in town this Sunday and we went to lunch. He said that Wharton is just crazy fast but the thing about Gaulden is just that he is someone that loves to hit. He said you could watch him catch a pass or something and try to find someone to hit or run over before trying to score. He just said that Gaulden has that killer mentality when on the field.

It's not so much a "mis" evaluation as a lack of evaluation. Not playing last year killed any hope of him being a 5* recruit. One of the biggest evaluation tools is Junior-year film/stats. He does not have that. I think he will be a top-tier 4* by the last evaluation. If he would have played last year and put up similar stats or just under what he has done this year, no doubt that he would be knocking down the 5* level I think.
