Guys need to beat out Coleman and Toney. McNeil needs to wrap up or he'll find the bench in a hurry.
I should rephrase: it won't necessarily be a bad sign for the long term if none of our guys displace Coleman as a starter, but we absolutely need guys to contribute immediately.
I'd agree that Toney is another deal completely though. It would be discouraging if no one we bring in or currently have on the roster is able to pass up him or Swafford at nickel.
Coleman needs to be replaced immediately. He looks the same now as he did when he was a freshman. Hasn't progressed one bit.
He does do some things well though, and will likely be a role player for us next year at least.
My only point is that we shouldn't get down on the freshmen we have coming in if none can steal the job from him. Coleman is limited as a cornerback, but he does have experience on his side.
If Gaulden/Evan Berry were also EEs I might assume Coleman loses his job, but Payne is probably better suited in the slot and both he and Moseley will face some size limitations going into year one.
I think we'll have someone who will steal snaps from him. Riyahd Jones could do it by the end of the season of he returns to health, but if you're expecting Coleman to lose his spot as a starter to a freshman by week one, you'll probably be disappointed.
What does he do well that a freshman can't do?
Next year will be a complete over haul of our secondary except for Randolph and Sutton
Just out of curiosity... How many tackles does Rashaan have on the year? He has to be getting close to the state record for tackles in a season. I know just from this game and another he had 60 tackles.... Some kids can't get 60 in a season let alone 2 games.
5 star talent with a nose for the ball. I'm glad he wants to be a Vol! :baloon:
Total tackles for the year
Solo Tackles 74 / Total Tackles 121 / Tackles Per Game 12.1
