RaShaan Gaulden had a touchdown catch and two interceptions, returning one for a score, with current and future teammate Vic Wharton adding a pick and a rushing score as Independence defeated District 11-AAA rival Centennial 31-14.
"There's been a lot of
Twitter smack talk, and I wanted to come out and show what I could do," Gaulden said. "Being a UT commit, folks are coming at Vic and I saying we're not that good, we shouldn't have all those offers, all that. It really motivates me on the field, helps me out big-time."

Midway through the second quarter, Gaulden broke on an Owen Roth pass near midfield, made the catch and took it 49 yards for a 21-6 cushion. "A 'pick-6' feels like it happens in slow-motion," Gaulden said. "You see him looking at the receiver, and you break on it and pick it and take it the distance. It's one of the best feelings in the world."
"What people don't really understand about RaShaan and Vic is, those guys are 'team' guys," Blade said. "They're out here taking pride in trying to lead. During our open week last week, they were out here coaching up their backups" (
