'14 TN DB Rashaan Gaulden (UT Signee 2/5/14)

Randolph is maybe the single most important player on defense this year. No way I see him getting passed next year. When he's not in our communication in the back 7 completely falls apart. He's also had a great season considering he's one year out from a torn ACL.

I think Lincolncovol's point was Randolph will get passed over by McDowell and/or TK Jr

Gaulden will start at CB or nickel. Payne too

TK Jr will take over from day one. Kid is a stud, most athletic of the recruits so far. I'm really excited about him.

TK jr is definitely the recruit that can have the biggest impact. He's a 6.0 4 star. Dominates his competition. Extremely intelligent with superb athleticism and he's going to be a safety which is our weakest position on defense.
I was stoked when we signed McNeil two years ago and I want to believe in him but his bad angles literally costs us a TD every game so far I hope his ability will be shown better in the future since hell have more talent around him because McNeil is a power hitter

I've been a little underwhelmed by him also. He jumped off the screen in his high school film, but like you said his angles haven't been great and I've been underwhelmed by his speed. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see him get passed by one of these newcomers.

He's also been playing with a shoulder injury all year. That's why we keep seeing him missing some plays. Been in the green practice jersey for weeks

Exactly. It's hard to know your angles and be your most physical when you're not going full speed and hitting during the week. I'm assuming he'll need surgery in the offseason, and then next year he'll be even better.

Hell, the kid was a freshman AA, and our defense was actually better than horrible last year before he tore his ACL against FL. When he was out against Bama we looked lost on the back end. He'll be even more important next year because we'll have so much more youth on the back end. He'll get them all where they need to be and also be a stud cleaning up mistakes in front of him.

He's been a big help to sutton as well. Glad butch put him on him and that it was Randolph who removed his black stripe

He's a great mentor for a guy like Sutton. And next year Sutton will be just as good of a mentor for these young guys coming in. Sounds like he's got one of the best work ethics on the team. Anybody who is an EE is really going to get some valuable experience during the offseason.

Are Gaulden and Wharton the only two people playing for Indy? How are they not blowing folks out?

Based off of what, Coach? TK2 is not by any means a slouch.

Edit: There's a reason he's a top 100 player in the country and borderline 5-star....

Who called him a slouch man? Is there a better athlete in the DB class than Evan Berry? What about explosive Gaulden? Then you've got a 6'3 200+ safety who runs like a deer in McDowell. Cool down no one is trying to discredit TKjr...... Smh

I'll give you EvB if were talking athleticism but I like TK2 after that...it might be just me I guess...

If we're just talking pure athleticism(explosive type athletes) I like the three more in that area than TK2. I look at it like this, if TK2 is our 4th best athlete in our DB class then it's loaded. :)

SN: 4th best athlete is different from saying he's the 4th best DB. :)

Based on purely athleticism, Mosely is surely not far off from that group? Size being an obvious negative, but his speed, quickness, and agility is top notch.

At the very least, I'd say we can expect newcomers in our secondary to crack the rotation and provide depth at safety and nickel.

We don't necessarily need guys to come in and beat out McNeil, Coleman, and Toney as starters, but we absolutely must have more guys we can sub in without missing a beat and step up when someone is banged up.

Luckily, we'll have a huge influx of talent at DB. Mosley and Payne being EEs is huge for us at corner and nickel, TK jr and McDowell should provide some quality depth at safety, and Evan Berry and Rashaan Gaulden are versatile enough to step in and possibly crack the lineup at CB, NB, or S.

If our backup guys like Malik Foreman and Lemond Johnson can develop well from year one to year two, our secondary should much greater depth next season.
