Doesn't he realize he is an OFFENSIVE tackle? He's supposed to try to STOP people from knocking the pass down.

Poor coaching IMO.

Per ESPN about his recent UT and bama offers.

“Coach Mahoney had messaged me on Facebook a couple times and said to call him, but I’m not the best at calling people when they tell me to,” Bookser said. “But today I had time and thought I should really call him just to say what’s up and learn a little about the program. He was really excited that I called and told me all about the place, and it sounds really nice, bunch of brand new facilities.”

Jones then got on the phone with Bookser, who really liked what the two coaches had to say. He hopes to learn more about the program and could visit following trips to Rutgers on Mar. 30 and Ohio State the following week.

The same morning, Bookser remembered his high school coach Mike Melnyk told him to give the Alabama staff a call. He thought he would just be talking with offensive line coach Mario Cristobal, but there was a surprise waiting for him on the other line.

“I thought it was just going to be the O-line coach telling me he was interested,” Bookser said, “but I actually got on with Coach [Nick] Saban and talked to him for a little. It was pretty cool.”

“He talked a lot about the program and said how he really liked the way I played, really liked my physicality and played with good technique and stuff like that,” he said. “He just said he was excited about me and the way I play.”

Bookser, who is also being recruited as a defensive lineman by some schools, has 16 offers.

Bookser says USC is trying to make a stop in Mount Lebanon in April along with Tennessee. He told HooNation that these visits from coaches and his visits to schools will be the difference makers once he does narrow down his list.

So, who are the top 8?

It was a Thursday night in late April and Alex Bookser was watching the NFL draft. A 6-foot-6, 295-pound prospect, Bookser is being recruited as a lineman on both sides of the ball.

Bookser was an offensive lineman by the end of the night Thursday.

“Ever since I saw the draft I decided to go O-line,” said Bookser, referring to the run on tackles in the first round, including three among the first five picks. “That was the biggest draft I’ve ever seen, so I was like if I can get that far it’ll definitely pay off.”

Not officially set, Bookser’s top eight will likely consist of Alabama, Michigan State, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Tennessee and Virginia. He is hoping to visit the Tide, Wildcats and Volunteers this summer.

Hopefully helps our chances with CBJ having recruited the #1 overall pick.

This guys fits the mold of a CBJ offensive tackle perfectly... lean and athletic. Getting him on campus this summer would be huge.

"ohio state, pitt, virginia, penn state, alabama, tennessee, msu and northwestern," he said on thursday evening. "pitt and ohio state are probably the front runners as of now."

the 6-foot-6, 295-pound prospect has visited ohio state, penn state, pittsburgh and virginia so far and said that he would like to check out the remaining schools on his list this summer.

ESPN nugget.

Bookser's teammate Troy Apke is already a Penn State commit, and Bookser was visiting when Apke pledged. PSU is in Bookser's top group, and he wants to visit State College again with his parents, which is always a strong indicator.

"Alex bookser was here today. The big offensive tackle left impressed and hopes to be back with his family in the fall for a game."

"I had been wanting to come down for a while now," Bookser said. "I didn't know if I would get the chance to this summer. My parents and I were at Ohio State last weekend. They were not able to come down this weekend. But coach Melnick has been talking to coach Mahoney. I saw they were having this cookout thing and I figured it would be a lot of fun because it's a great way to get to know the guys who are here.

"When I first met coach Mahoney, I thought he was a really good guy. It's an SEC school, but it's not too far away. So I think it's a place that is within reason and you can still get into this conference. And the recruiting class they are bringing in right now is really exciting. To be a part of that is something that I think about."

"Just the team and the coaches. The coaching staff was really good. It's a real family atmosphere. I know it's a place where I can come and be comfortable. I could spend four years here and not be to homesick even though it's a seven hour car ride from home. "All of them talk about how it's a family atmosphere and that's something I like. They are telling me that this is a place where I could come in and making an impact immediately. That's a big thing for me."

"It's a really tough question," Bookser said of the factors in his decision. "Once I figure that out then I will commit. Everyone has great facilities. Everyone brings people to the stadium on Saturday's. It comes down to what group of coaches that I'm most comfortable with and I feel will develop me to the highest I can get."

I really wish we had room for this kid. He may become a target if Blair chooses Auburn.

On Bookser.

"It's hard for me to see Tennessee beat out Penn State and some Northeast schools. If he comes back to Knoxville with his family in the fall for an official visit then my view on him might change."
