'14 OR DE Connor Humphreys

"Humphreys planned to commit to Tennessee in mid-July but ran into complications.

"I called the coach, and they told me that I needed to wait the weekend because they had a lot of visitors," Humphreys said. "They told me to wait and let's talk Monday. I thought about it over the weekend, and I thought, 'If someone can't accept me now, I don't want to accept them.' I want a school that's going to be just as excited as I am to go there."

Was Barnett/Mosely on campus in mid-July by any chance?

I know Barnett was... I don't believe Mosley made it in

CBJ: (Walking DB into his office) Derek, this stud Defensive Lineman from Oregon just called and is dying to commit. I only have one spot left, after your boy Mosely committed (silently) the other day. It's yours, but I need to know. I don't want to tell good players that I'm full if you are going elsewhere. You know you are our number one guy.

Derek: Coach Butch, tell that Oregon boy to look elsewhere. I'm all Vol.

One can hope, right? Haha.

I am surprised Butch Jones passed on this kid. Especially in mid-July when we were reeling in a commitment every two or three days. He looks like a stud on film, too.

As long as we get Mosley and Barnett, I guess it does not matter. Slow playing a quality DT who wanted to commit is risky for us IMO. Thomas, Humphreys, Williams, and Ford were said to wanted to commit and we passed. Hope it does not come back to burn us.

This x 1000. The reason why I am uneasy with this is bc as of the last 10 years, Tennessee has sucked at DL recruiting and it has been a major reason why this program has performed so poorly on the field. We need quality DL and turning down multiple quality prospects early in the process is risky business in my opinion. I thought Humphrey's was a take 10/10 times. Guess I was wrong.

My opinion. But, ASU has 12 D players on NFL rosters right now. UT has 12 D players on NFL rosters as well.

So Ron, not sure what you are saying.

Also sounds like he was a take depending on what happened that weekend. I like the bird in the hand then get the others and let it work out.

I wanted Humphreys too, was hoping he'd be a Vol. Just saying he's not some 100% stud DL that UT or anyone must take. He was labeled a "tweener" by some and Oregon didn't offer.

I know this too. But coaches wanted to wait. Shows you how that can be a risk. They just wanted to wait a couple of days and he said.... Well bye. With 30 guys, this would be a good one to have taken in my book.

Passing on guys is definitely a risk. Hopefully it works out in UT's favor.

So ASU = UT

Did not say that. Some kids especially out west would rather go there. Presently, they have just as many d players in nfl as UT. Sorry to give you facts. As a fan of UT, I would choose UT. Anyone who can think knows not everyone would pick UT. Just because this kid went to asu when this staff asked him to wait doesn't mean asu stinks as a school to everyone else in the world.

Plenty of folks would like asu better. Just because we don't agree with them doesn't make it not true.

I know passing on Humphreys seems risky but something tells me Butch knows exactly what he's doing and has a reason/s for doing so. I don't like seeing us pass on big time recruits, either. Especially ones that really want to be Vols but Butch hasn't done anything to this point, imo, to make me doubt his decision making. I think in the end we'll be looking back and saying "Yeah, Butch gets it." JMO

I'm just bored and was trolling you, my response wasn't what I actually took from your op.
