He's got superb hands, quick, and will be a really good slot receiver. Offer list will only grow as recruiters see his film.

With wide receivers coach Zach Azzanni desiring 12 scholarship wide receivers, the position will once again be an emphasis in the 2014 class. One name that is a bit of a sleeper is three-star wide receiver and Raleigh, N.C., native Braxton Berrios. He is a 5-foot-10, 170-pound speedster that creates a legit option in the slot. The No. 72 receiver in the 2014 class doesn't have an Orange & White offer yet, but there seems to be some legit interest from both parties. He does have offers from the likes of Clemson, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia Tech among others.

Braxton Berrios, who's one of the top 20 players in North Carolina and a top-flight student, is likely to get a scholarship offer if he can make his way to Rocky Top for a visit. Berrios, although only 5-feet-9, could cause matchup problems in the slot just as the staff believes players like Ryan Jenkins and Devrin Young. Berrios had nearly 2,000 yards from scrimmage last fall. He has promised Tennessee he will visit

Berrios is close with Gamecock freshman quarterback Connor Mitch. The two played against each other in high school several times. He was able to watch Mitch play on Saturday and then catch up with him afterwards.

"He looked really good," Berrios said about Mitch. "He had some pretty deep balls. I went into the locker room after the game and talked to him. We have a good relationship. Of course he is an advocate for South Carolina. He asked me if I was going to stay and I couldn't. I will have to do that either later this spring or during the summer."

"It is very high," Berrios said about his interest level in the Gamecocks.

Tennessee will likely be the next trip for Berrios. He also plans on visiting West Virginia, Ohio State, and Kentucky at some point during the summer.

"I'm graduating early so the latest (a decision) would be late September," Berrios said. "I have no timetable right now. I will take a few official visits."

His film looks good IMO. How this kid is a Rivals 4 star and Josh Smith was a 3 star and Cody Blanc was a 2 star is beyond me. Rival's secret formula I guess...

“I didn't expect the offer,” said Berrios. “I have been talking to Coach (Zach) Azzanni (Tennessee wide receivers coach) and he had basically been telling me we want you to come visit – and when you get down here – we’ll offer. Then I called him (on Thursday), and he put me on the phone Coach (Butch) Jones and he offered me. It was a little shocking, so it made it that much better and I’m excited.”

“It’s a big one and they’ll definitely be heavily in the mix,” said the 5-foot-10, 170-pound Berrios. “But I’m still taking it slow. It’s a great school – Wide Receiver U – and a great offer. I still don’t have a list of top schools or any favorites – I’m wide open.”
