With his junior football season behind him, D.K. Buford can start to think about recruiting.

Buford, whose team was recently eliminated from the playoffs, became much more familiar in recruiting circles after he reportedly ran a 4.22-second time in the 40-yard dash earlier this year. Sure, college coaches will want to check his speed in person. That's why they're beginning to reach out to the 5-foot-10, 190-pound prospect from Oxford (Miss.) Lafayette in hopes of getting him on campus.

Buford said he has received recent interest from Notre Dame, Alabama, Arkansas, Tennessee, LSU, Georgia and Missouri. The ESPN Watch List prospect has long held scholarship offers from nearby Ole Miss and Mississippi State.

:)4.22 is probably generous, but he looks really really fast, kind of like raijon neal looks fast. likely a great get for somebody though

He would really fit in with a Meyer offense or UF's offense. The RB class seems to be very deep for next year.

Agreed. Freeze is recruiting very, very well. The finality of their class this year on the top-end talent is going to blow people's minds.

Yep, and I've got to give him credit where credit is due I did not see this Ole Miss team in a bowl game (though he was helped by some west teams being surprisingly bad). What is the general opinion of Miss. State fans on Mullen after this year? Any fans beginning to get restless due to the fact that he really struggles to beat anybody that ends up being worth anything?

Let's just say that the State fanbase is starting to split a bit on the issue after being nearly 100% locked in behind him for the first 3 11/12ths seasons. There is some restlessness among some after the season-ending loss to Ole Miss, which was his worst loss in 50 games @ MSU(previously he'd never lost to a team ranked worse than 27th in the AP).

It's a wait and see now. The next 2 months are going to tell us JUST what kind of coach he really is. We saw some pretty obvious problems defensively and with playcalling this year(when we had talent in place to be better), and there are changes that have to be made for us to take another step forward. If he doesn't make the changes, then we likely take a step back next year, with a much more difficult schedule. This year was disappointing because we weren't as good as we were supposed to be in any phase and didn't play with the heart that we've come to expect. Last year was justifiable due to OL injuries and lack of depth.

Overall, State fans are letting higher expectations creep in a bit too quickly IMO. Mullen recruited terribly in 10 and 11 and it's hurting us now. That said, people forget that MSU isn't a "quick fix" job. Comparing how Mullen has done in his first 4 years to how Spurrier did in his first 4 at South Carolina tells me we are about where we need to be, and Spurrier walked into a much better situation than Mullen did. We've just got to keep building the foundation and becoming consistently good in hopes that we can elevate another tier over time.

Still happy with where we are overall. The new football facility opens next month and concrete is already being poured on the stadium expansion/renovation, which will make 3/4 of the stadium into an absolute palace, albeit still a small one. This will be our 2nd straight excellent recruiting class(actually probably our best one since the Sherrill years). We've just got to get one or two elite skill players to take the next step... and we've missed on a bunch of them over the past 4 years.

Already like the name D.K.! Definitely need a highly rated RB this class, and preferably a decent size kid
