'14 Juco DT Lance McDowdell

I don't think he's progressed how some thought he would. He may be a take down the line, but Tennessee has others in front of him right now.

I'm not sure how many teams on his list would take him. I think his stock is falling in the eyes of alot of teams who offered early.

No...would rather build through HS D-Linemen rather than JUCO

Would that sentiment be the same had I bumped the Jarran Reed thread?

However, I do agree with you. I much prefer HS players over JUCO players as a whole. 3-4 years of service rather than 1-2 years. This is one reason I am not totally upset over the loss of Lambert as others appear to be. It allows our young players already on the roster more PT and a chance to build depth through the HS ranks.

Yeah I understand that but at this point in our program we will need a nice mix of jucos and HS players to get us to that next level. So as much as it will be nice to give it to a HS player if that player isn't ready to make a decent impact this year then I say hold that scholly for an elite player next season

No sense in wasting a spot on a JUCO DL now unless its a given they can make an immediate impact. Not sure there's any left that can do that. Missing on Lambert was huge for next year. Down the road maybe not so much.

“Tennessee was up there, and you know, it’s a really good school,” the 6-foot-1, 255-pounder said. “They have really great recruits coming in and I like all their coaches. They just didn’t have enough room in that class, you know, that 2014 class is filled with a bunch of solid guys.

Ole Miss or LSU

He has a committable offer to LSU and we told him no thanks? Seems unlikely, but what do I know.

i think wU put the article in in the wrong thread. I think thats referring to Gerrald McDowell. Lance McDowdell looks like a UCF lean

This. JUCO guys are only smoke and mirrors to help you build depth immediatly. We need Freshman who are going to stick around. As good as CP was we only saw him for a year. versus having a guy for 3. Big difference

We're apparently out of the picture:

Nebraska, Miami, Northern Illinois and Alabama are McDowdell's next stops - as far as visits go - and he has a date in mind of when he'll decide.

"I'm going to commit Feb 1," McDowdell said. "I don't know where I'm going to commit, but UCF is on top."

ESPN seems to think we are still recruiting Calvin Heurtelou and Lance McDowdell. Do they know something we don't?

SEC football recruiting scorecard 2014 - ESPN
TENNESSEE

2014 verbal commitments: 34

Spotlight: The Vols need to add more athleticism and playmaking ability to the wide receiver position, and Josh Malone of Gallatin, Tenn., could step right in and get a healthy amount of reps this spring. Having him on campus now will help him as he continues to develop into a more sound receiver.

ESPN 300 members: 10 (Malone; S Todd Kelly Jr. of Knoxville, Tenn.;RB Jalen Hurd of Hendersonville, Tenn.; OLB Dillon Bates Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.; DE Dewayne Hendrix of O'Fallon, Ill.; S Cortez McDowell of Locust Grove, Ga.; ILB Gavin Bryant of Jackson, Ala.; CB D'Andre Payne of Washington, D.C.; ATH Evan Berry of Fairburn, Ga.; DE Derek Barnett of Brentwood, Tenn.)

Key targets: Junior college defensive tackle prospects Calvin Heurtelou and Lance McDowell have become very important targets for the Vols, who need another interior linemen. Tennessee's staff is still going after Alabama commit Bo Scarbrough and Derrell Scott.

Well apparently they are "very important' targets for us. Somebody should tell Butch.
