Dude looks 30 years old. Says Tennessee is his first offer he will take an unofficial visit in the next few weeks.

“I was so elated when I heard I had the offer from Tennessee. The feeling I got was I just wanted to run outside a couple miles. I was very happy.”

“There’s been a couple of schools that were really, really interested, and Tennessee was one of the newer ones that had hopped on board,” he said. “They told me they had showed my highlights to the whole (defensive staff), so I was really happy with how happy they were to be recruiting me.”

“As far as where I place them among all the other colleges, they’re at number one right now because it’s my first offer, and they’ll remain number one until another school is able to blow me away after I take this unofficial visit,” Simon said. “I’ll be back in Georgia pretty soon — like, a week, two weeks from now — and that’s when I’ll take my unofficial.”

“I just know a lot of people that have gone there,” he said. “When I was in high school, I got two sacks on their (offensive) tackle they have now, (rising senior) Ja’Wuan James. I know a couple other people that were in my high-school league in Gwinnett County that also went to Tennessee.

“My dad told me that the D-line coach (Steve Stripling) said that I would definitely be a starter there if I go,” Simon said. “They told me that they’re losing a bunch of guys and stuff, and they need JUCO help.”

“I plan on going to a school where I can start right away and be a factor,” Simon said. “Weight room is one of the things I look for in a school, living conditions and what they can do for me as a student — what they offer major-wise and stuff. ...

Sounds like this guy is all vol unless the coaches back off

I will wait for this one to play out. Hutchinson CC recruiting did not work out so well for us last year. After landing CP I thought we would get Bradley, Johnson, Campbell, and maybe even Stewart. Of course we went 0 for.

Of course we also lost our entire staff, a staff that included Brandon Staley, former DC at Hutchinson, a big reason we were in such good position with those guys. Those recruits had no relationship with the new staff.

IMO that is the reason at least Staley should have been retained for this year. Would I deal with a GA for a year to land (4) great Juco recruits at positions of need? Yup!

Simon finished with 36 tackles in 8 games last year including 10 TFL & 4.5 sacks (2nd on the team to Ben Bradley in both categories). He apparently redshirted his freshman year @ Hutchinson, so he'll have 2 years to play 2.

I think the fact the he is a 2 for 2 guy is a factor of why he offer list is lacking.

Highlight film looks good, very disruptive to the QB and pushes back OL (not sure how good those guys were though). Coaches seem to have liked him. His offer list out of highschool was very lack luster.

Wouldn't that give him 3 years to play 3? Or did he play 2 years at CC after redshirting?

Probably has something to do with how he ended up going juco. Was it grades?

Simon along with Lambert would be an excellent haul from Juco D-Linemen. Would both get meaningful PT, and contribute immediately IMO.

So if we get Simon plus Henderson and Hendrix at De Plus Lambert, Poona, and Sawyers at Dt that sounds pretty good. Hopefully we get Barnett too I say he has DT all over him. I havn't forgot about Mosley but I want him on the oline as a guard.

“There were some things that were amazing that I’ve never seen before at other universities, or at all —*never heard of, never seen on TV or anything,” he said. “Some of the things that they have going on in the weight room and then some of the things they have as far as media —*film and all that.”

The 6-foot-3.5, 256-pound Simon said it was enough to make Tennessee “my number one” among the teams currently showing interest in him, although he’s not in a hurry to decide on a college, and he “for sure” will take an official visit to Knoxville later this year.

“I’m definitely going to wait until probably the first three games into my season before I make a decision,” he said. “I might verbally commit before then, but I’ll have to see how my season starts out.”

“Right now, (Tennessee is) going to stay number one until another university’s able to impress me how they did.”
