As much as I enjoy a good crapping on the Barn every now and then, you can't honestly be surprised by this string of kids suddenly interested in them. Winning a massive amount of games and playing for championships is the ultimate recruiting tool.

Winning a national title in 2010 and now playing for another gets kids attention? Leave that crap at the door on your way into VN.

I don't question this one either. I just find it funny when people take an apologistic stance when talking about Auburn.

10 Most Corrupt College Athletic Programs - Associate Degree.com

Who is taking an apologestic stance? Not me. I'm also not going to bury my head in the sand and pretend UT is clean. We had our hand caught in the cookie jar a few times. I'm also not willing to make cheating excuses for losing a recruit to another (winning) program -- even if they have a checkered past. Too many programs have been caught cheating to believe ANY of them are clean.

Remember the reaction from the Clemson board when we pulled Malone? Sounds just like the $$$ reasoning on this board.

I constantly preach this idea to my kids --- if you don't like the position you're in, work harder to improve it. Jones and his staff work their asses off. We'll get more of these 'on the fence' recruits as soon as we couple winning with the coach's hard work. :good!:

Why give a rip anyway? We were never in it for this kid. It's not like he is the only good DT available in the whole country. Forget about it.

But FWIW, pay or no pay, given the choice and not being tied to any SEC program in advance - Johnson and Garner as coaches, or, Jancek and Strib? Former > later. May not always be the case, but the former has been doing it at the highest level in the SEC for a lot of years. The later needs to prove themselves.

Nailed it. From personal experience I know this to be true. Work hard and long doing sometimes crappy work nobody else wants to do. Then reap the rewards later and smile at the wannabes.

I think Stripling is a better coach than Garner, and Johnson is better coordinator than Jancek at this point. Garner is an elite recruiter...shady but elite.

Did somebody say elite recruiter?

Do we have the same track record as Auburn going all the way back to the Pat Dye era?

Not to mention, Tennessee is a traditional power and one of the top 10 greatest programs in the history of college football. Couple that with facilities, Neyland stadium, Vol Navy, the fact that the town is not in the middle of a cow field and graduates have a good shot at employment due to our economic success and it's an easy sell.

Sure auburn has a history of some corrupt things but its silly to act like they don't have countless reasons to attract recruits other than cheating.

All those great things you named about us the same or more can be said about them. They are the clearly the better performing program right now.

All this talk about a cow town is overblown as well. They are plenty close enough to Atlanta to have a huge draw for all those elite recruits. In fact if a flight is involved getting to auburn is likely more cost efficient and quicker thru Atlanta than it would be for a kid coming to Knoxville.

This fight isn't over yet!!
Quit giving up so easily! It's forth quarter- tucking tail is not an option you bunch of doolittles!
Show the kid some love and give butch and the boys time to do what they are paid to do.
I still want this young man in Knoxville.

We were never in this one.

EDIT: Upon further review it appears we never even offered Russell.

247 doesn't show an offer

We offered him. Not every sire reports it. We just were never a major factor to him. When 247 guys ask him about his recruitment, he never mentioned us because we were never a factor with him

I gotcha. Only reason I said something is because he told scout in March in an interview we offered. He said he would consider a visit and never mentioned UT after that I ever saw

Good to know.

No idea how the recruiting services keep track of each recruit's offers anyway (verbal, written, etc)

By players word of mouth. They usually look into it a little bit but you can usually tell if a player is worth an offer from said school

The formula is simple. You rob, cheat, steal, lie, pay, pimp, and ho, when your doing poorly. Then when you're winning, you don't have too. That is if you're a Bama school. If you're UT you're open to the death penalty for tacos.
