Ball plays the quarterback position with respectable efficiency; this is an outstanding athlete with the physical size and toughness that allows him to be productive as a defensive safety. Were he to remain at the quarterback position his footwork and delivery technique would need to be refined; this would require time and most likely a red shirt year. This prospect has both the size and athleticism for either position at the major level of competition; his frame appears capable of supporting additional bulk over time. The athleticism we see along with his tackling skills suggests the potential to do a variety of jobs successfully as a special teams player. Operating out of a shotgun spread set we see a dual threat quarterback capable of moving the chains with his feet and arm; gets his eyes downfield showing the ability to find open receivers running underneath routes; must learn to set his feet and step into throws, especially when throwing deep balls; there is the need to tighten up his delivery motion and follow through; is effective throwing on the move both to the right and left, using his nimble feet to avoid pressure and keep the ball alive. This guy is a tough customer with running back skills; does a very effective job running inside and off the edge; makes quick decisions, locating a crease and getting up to the second level where his elusiveness and toughness take over; flashes the burst and playing speed needed to rip off big chunks of yardage once in space. As a safety we see very good reactions to both the run and pass; is a willing run stopper who moves through traffic well showing the tackling skills which limit gains beyond the line of scrimmage. Demonstrates very good route awareness as a zone coverage defender; has the ability to close on passes displaying outstanding ball skills; can make the out of the frame extended, diving catch. Once Ball settles into a permanent position he should have a long and productive career at the BCS level of play
