Interesting that he wants his parents to come with him -- that indicates more than just a casual interest on his part. The kid has a very good offer list and looks like an excellent prospect at a position of need.

I like his size I like these big linebackers that could play in the middle for us soon. It's good when there already big IMO because then they usually just have to get a bit stronger comin out of high school and we don't have to worry about them gaining weight to play ILB. Huge position of need IMO as well.

People his size should NOT be able to move like this. Plays EVERY play like it's his last. Appears to put on his hard hat and grab his tool belt before stepping on the field and just goes to work.

For those familiar with the Alabama area reminds me of a more aggressive Mac Campbell.

If we can this guy & Hatcher w/ Vereen I'll feel better about our LB class.

I think I might like Barnes more than Vereen, and I like Vereen a lot. In the 3-4, it's really hard to judge a LB because if they do 1 or 2 things really good then they will be really good players in a 3-4. It's all about discipline and assignments more in the 3-4. In a 4-3 there's a lot more freedom and allows a lot of LBs to use athleticism alone to fly to the ball.

I think Vereen is our best LB currently committed, I really like him as a player. He can play multiple positions at LB in the 3-4. IMO he will move up the rankings as the season progresses.

I like Barnes better than Campbell & Zanca.

Vereen is our best OLB prospect thus far with Barnes being fairly raw still..

BEAST!!! Looks to punish people no matter what side of the ball he is on. Hopefully, we're able to get him and his family in ASAP.

If you haven't watched his film, I strongly suggest that you do.

A good friend of mine (LSU Fan) down here in Lake Charles is telling me that Chavis is really high on this kid. They have been recruiting him really hard, but there are academic concerns. Not sure how much that will effect how hard Dooley and Co. Recruit him. If his measurables are as stated on his Rival's Profile, that's a big kid!

Let's hope he's smarter than Mac Campbell. Coached against him in HS, great RB, but couldn't even spell his name. Tremendous waste of talent. He was just as good as an 8th grader as he was a senior.

A little info on Melvin Jones, his father played for Texas A&M. That could play a big role in his recruitment. My LSU buddy wasn't exactly sure where LSU stood with him. LA's in-state talent is a little down this year. Moreover, they took a lot of LBs in last cycle, and if he were to gain a little weight, he would play a DE in their scheme.

This is the only other guy besides yannick and hatcher that I want in our linebacker class this year. I think the staff has done a great job and got us four quality linebackers to start this class out.

But the paid UT coaching staff was.

How many times is that going to be used? No sh!t that's what they are getting paid to do. My opinion, which is the point of this board, is that I'm not impressed with our current LB's except Vereen. You don't like that? Ignore me. :eek:k:

Some guys in our LB class will probably be recruited over. Not going to mention names this early in the process. Yannick, Lawson, Hatcher and this kid may unseat a couple of guys.

I agree. If we perform well on the field this year I could see several in this class winding up elsewhere. There are a lot of great recruits that have real interest in UT. Just depends on how the season goes.
