coaches can be at the hotels and outside in bus area but not inside the stadium.

It's only a secondary violation so why not break it.

Since UF fans are up in arms and you seem to be in the know can you get the actuall NCAA rule regarding this. Just curious because I can not find it in the manual at all. So please if you can share.:hi:

Congrats.

Saban broke the rules to make sure he got this one. Didn't even try to hide the fact it was a violation. Not even mad..hope more coaches use this moving foward.

Thanks for the congrats but as far as bringing up rule breaking its laughable, imo. No SEC fan (well maybe Vandy) should be bringing up anything about another SEC team breaking rules, especially secondary violations, if they are not willing to bring up things about their own school's rule breaking. Otherwise its just being a hypocrite.

Calling and setting up a visit during the dead period is perfectly legal.

Also if LT wasn't inside until the game ended he could have had contact with the kid as he left the field.

I guess they had to keep up with UF because the word out there is that the UF coaches were calling Walker to setup the visit during the dead period.

What goes around goes around and to keep a recruit and just get a slap on the wrist is no biggie.

coaches get one phone call a week during the dead period and can call his coaches whenever. Not even close to the samething. Like I said I'm not mad at all bc more program should bend this rule if it's only a sec violation.

Not inside the stadium. The can meet outside once the staff has released them..coaches aren't allowed inside, period.

Per the NCAA website. Fans need to know the rules before they claim foul.

Dead Period — Coaches are not permitted to make in-person recruiting contacts or evaluations on or off-campus or to permit official or unofficial visits by recruits or to make phone calls to recruits.

and fans need to not post in BOLD:

What is a dead period?

During a dead period a college coach may not have face-to-face contact with college-bound student-athletes or their parents, and may not watch student-athletes compete or visit their high schools. Coaches may write and telephone student-athletes or their parents during a dead period

My understanding is CLT spoke with Walker after the game if so no violation, if before than just a secondary violation.

Contacts are restricted at the prospect’s practice/ competition site until such time as the competition has concluded and the prospect has been released by the appropriate authority.

That would be my understanding of the contact rules but it sounds like there are special rules surrounding all star games.

That is why I askes HG for the rule. I can not find anything different from that in the DI manual.

It was from the NCAA website and I will see if I can pull it up again. I posted it on another site a few weeks ago. Trying to remember because the general rule is yes but DI football and BBall have exceptions that my understanding only allow you to contact a recruit that is a midyear enrollee and has already been accepted and signed papers. Now is Walker who is an EE had sought enrollment at UF as well he could be contacted.

Tha rule is this from their website.

(2) December 17, 2012, through January 3, 2013, [except for (a) below]: Dead Period

(a) Institutional staff members may have contact with a prospective student-athlete who has been admitted for midyear enrollment, provided the prospect has signed a National Letter of Intent or other offer of admission and/or financial aid to attend the institution and is required to be on campus to attend institutional orientation sessions for all students:

Now a recruit can contact a coach as mush as they want I believe, so it is about who initiates the contact during the dead period.

Possibly the rule you have found is pertaining to the timeframe around NSD?? That's the only time I know of that calls can't be made.
