Stanford, UCLA, Notre Dame, Cal and Tennessee are all expected to stop by Island Coast High School for a look in May. Miami and Florida State have also been in touch. The Seminoles could make a move depending on how the baseball draft plays out for Class of 2012 signee Jameis Winston, Benkert said.

Everything that I have seen about this kid says that he is one of the best QBs that isn't getting alot of pub. Supposedly has the arm and good size

Seems the staff is searching in Florida for another signal caller. With the emergence of Peterman during spring practice, I would not be opposed taking more of a project that has a cannon for an arm (Darryl Richardson or Kurt Benkert).

I have never been a fan of 'project QBs' because you're always a couple of injuries and/or a couple transfers away from playing. Some positions I'm for projecting just qb isn't one of them. Take the NFL for example far too many busts for me.

Tampa Bay times

Cape Coral QB Kurt Benkert says he is "basically down to" USF and Tennessee. Scheduled to visit Vols on Wednesday, make decision in 2 weeks.

I never knew he had an offer... maybe he does.

He does not have an offer. He may get one, but he'll have to impress Wednesday. If he gets an offer, he'll commit to us. If he doesn't, he'll go to USF.

I thought he was coming up. Thanks for the update Jay. I know there were 7 schools that invited him to come to camp in the hopes of earning an offer. Guess we'll see what happens.

He's originally from Maryland and moved to FL. This is his first year at Island Coast. You're right Jmo, his offer list isn't very good. He has caught the attention of a lot of schools but they want him to throw in front of them. He may or may not be worth a scholarship. IMO, I like Ferguson better.

Ferguson is better IMO as well. I think it says a lot that he has camped at a number of schools and has not been offered.

Honestly, I don't expect him to earn an offer. I hope he commits to USF after today and that leaves us with no road blocks to land Ferguson.
