'13 D.C. LB Yannick Ngakoue

Per ESPN:

Ngakoue is a prospect that will move around and line-up in different spots as a front seven defender for his high school. At the college level he could end up fitting at a few different positions depending on the scheme and how he continues to physically develop. If he plays in a 4-3 there is a very distinct possibility he could end up playing with his hand down which he does some now. He has a good combination of height and bulk at this stage with room to fill out further and could possess the size for inside linebacker or potentially D-End. He Flashes good initial quicks to get off the spot. He is a physical kid who doesn't shy away from contact, but does need to watch his pad level as he can play high at times and must do a better job of using his hands when taking on blockers. Displays adequate recognition skills. Displays solid range and speed and needs to improve his angles of pursuit. A physical and solid tackler who can attack ball carriers high at times because of his pad level. Does demonstrate some tightness and adequate ability to open up and drop into coverage. Looks at his best when he can vertically attack and looks to be used more as a pass rusher. Does flash a little better use of his hands when rushing the passer. Will do a good job of trying to attack half-a-man and get to the shoulder, but displays more adequate ability to tightly bend the edge and work back in towards the quarterback. Does an excellent job of getting his hands up when he can't get to the quarterback and will knock down some passes. Ngakoue is prospect who could land at few different spots on defense in college though we wouldn't be surprised to see him eventually land at defensive end. Could contribute early on special teams, but as a defensive player we don't see an immediate contributor, but with further development can be a productive pass rusher and physical run defender.

Sounds like Sal is working his DMV connects:

Florida State, Maryland, South Carolina and Miami are the schools that I'm considering," said Ngakoue. "That covers it."

The four-star linebacker has taken just one official visit thus far.

"Just Maryland, so far. I've got visits coming up soon. I haven't firmed up the dates but Florida State, South Carolina, and Miami will each receive official visits.

"Those are the ones coming up and I'm pretty sure that the visits will come in that order."

South Carolina, Florida State, Maryland and Miami are equal

Rivals shows we're still in the running for Yannick. Looks like from this thread we're on the outside looking in. Anyone know anything?

we should start posting lowlights from last year's defense on twitter with hash tags for Florida state and sunseri.

5. YANNICK NGAKOUE, ILB, WASHINGTON (D.C.) FRIENDSHIP COLLEGIATE ACADEMY
Ngakoue is athletic, and he could play all three linebacker positions at the next level. He locates the ball carrier quickly and attacks downhill. During the team portion of camp, he was solid in coverage and had a pass breakup on a seam route down the middle of the field. He shows good change of direction when dropping into pass coverage.

Poster asked if we're still after Yannick...

Thigpen is trying. He's in the DC area today seeing Yannick and Levenberry before they take their weekend trips.

From Rivals -

Na'Ty Rodgers wasn't the only Mid-Atlantic prospect to take an official visit to South Carolina on Jan. 18. Yannick Ngakoue also flew south to see the how the Gamecocks compared to Maryland and Florida State. The four-star linebacker from Washington (D.C.) Friendship Collegiate Academy did take an official visit to Florida State on Jan. 11. It has been reported that the former Maryland commit enjoyed both visits and that he will announce on signing day. As for a favorite, it is a tight race between Maryland and South Carolina with Florida State in third. Ngakoue isn't tipping his hand, but something tells me the Terps could come out on top.
