Finebaum: Meyer tops SEC coaching rankings - Keeping Score - al.com

12. Lane Kiffin (Tennessee): This remains a bizarre hire for one of the elite programs in the SEC. The presence of his father as defensive coordinator and Ed Orgeron should help, but Kiffin will have a difficult time quieting the critics and proving he can coach at this level.

and check this out;
11. Gene Chizik (Auburn): Chizik has weathered a punishing storm of criticism and has put together an excellent staff. Expectations have been lowered dramatically for the time being, which should also help.

Remember last summer when some folks on this board suggested that Crompton would be the third best QB in the SEC behind Tebow and Stafford? These kind of rankings/prognostications mean nothing and are completely subject to the opinion of the writer.

How in the hell can you rank Dan Mullen aobove Chizik and Kiffin, he has never been a head coach. Lane has just got to prove to people he can get the job done.

In all fairness, not having a head coaching record is better than the results Chizik and Kiffin are bringing to the table.

Wrong. Kiffin coached for the most disfunctional NFL franchise in the history of the league.

I could care less about these rankings but that's just garbage to say his NFL experience is worth less than ZERO head coaching experience.

Finebaum is a complete moron. In all honesty though, this kind of stuff will only make CLK thrive more...he is out to prove he can be a successful head coach...and this is just adding fuel.

And to whoever said that CLK's record is worse than no HC record is asinine at best.

I'll gladly take a coach who has ran an NFL program, and schemed in the NFL over a coach who has never been the Head guy.

It's stupid to rank people in anything. Each one of these guys are facing different situations. Put Bobby Johnson in Florida or Urban Meyer at Vandy.

how?? the guy that has never been a head coach may never win a game, you can't know until he has actually done it.

UT IE 95 reminds me of Debbie Downer...you know, from Sat. Night Live? Don't you think?

Who cares what finebaum thinks anyway...we'll see next fall when Auburn finished sub 500 and UT beats Auburn and makes it to a bowl game.

I will probably never hear the end of it from this board, but I would have to agree with Finebaum's assessment.

Lane Kiffin, BY HIMSELF, is probably the #12 coach on that list. He would have never gotten this job based on what he has done or his coaching abilities.

What set him above everyone else is the collective staff that he has brought to Knoxville. Without that, Kiffin wouldn't have had a snowballs chance.
