Preston Dewey

Dewey picked up a Tennessee offer today.

He also holds offers from Miami, UCLA, Utah, and SMU.

His high school coach is Ty Detmer so he is definitely getting some good QB coaching at the high school level.

Dewey visited UT last year for the Kentucky game and is interested for sure. He is going to make his decision sometime in the early summer.

Preston Dewey (Austin, Texas/St. Andrews) not only performed the best on Saturday, but also possesses possibly the most upside. He is coached by former Heisman Trophy winner Ty Detmer and it is obvious he has done a great job with Dewey. We first saw Dewey a year ago, when he was about an inch shorter and 10 pounds lighter, but he has really filled out. His release, footwork, delivery mechanics and overall competitiveness only cemented what we had seen on film to this point. He is so sound and very accurate. He can anticipate and he compensated for the wind better than most, which was a very difficult element. With recent offers from UCLA and a few non-BCS level programs, we expect Dewey's stock to rise considerably. He has a very high ceiling for development and you could see his confidence and swagger soar from beginning to end and he really got into a zone. We feel he is a BCS-level player that no one knows about or has not paid close enough attention to.

Got rave reviews at the Elite 11. This one's about to blow up.

STRENGTHS: Was the most accurate passer on the day. He demonstrated a very consistent throwing motion which allowed him to deliver strike after strike. Dewey threw the ball with good spin making his passes very catchable.

WEAKNESSES: Still could add some more muscle mass and strength while improving arm strength just a tad.

CONCLUSION: He has come a long way over the past two years turning himself into one of the top quarterbacks in the state of Texas. Look for his offer list to continue to grow. Dewey was the top target striker on the day earning the Golden Gun Award.

fort worth, texas -- preston dewey was complimented time after time at saturday's espn rise elite 11 regional quarterback camp at tcu for making smart decisions.

The 6-foot-3, 205-pounder was flawless in virtually everything he did saturday. Elite 11 camp coach dan hawkins praised him for great footwork and mechanics, and his accuracy allowed him to win the camp's golden gun award. Tom luginbill, espn's national director of football recruiting, also raved about dewey's performance.

"i think just because you might not be a big name on the national scene, it doesn't mean you're not a really good player," luginbill said. "dewey's performance [saturday] proved that. He's got timing, savvy, anticipation, quick release and can make all the throws. The thing that also excites me is that you can tell he's been working a lot under center. We see so many kids that are loaded up in the shotgun and the footwork all of a sudden isn't there. He's really, really good with his drops."

a lot of dewey's success can be credited to working with detmer, who took over as the coach at st. Andrews in 2009 after playing in the nfl for 14 years. Detmer played for six different nfl teams during his career, each of them employing a version of the west coast offense. He's brought that same attack to st. Andrews, and dewey has thrived in it.

Does everything written about him not sound exactly like Tyler Bray?

Strong arm, accurate, under the radar, needs to add muscle

IIRC, Bray won the Golden Gun Award at Elite 11 as well.

Bray won his awards at the big Elite 11 event though. the one where the top 11 QBs in the country attend sometime in the summer.

this kid does sound impressive however.

"I do want to make a decision in June," Dewey said. "Tennessee kind of threw a wrench in that with the offer, but that's not a bad thing. I don't have a specific decision date in mind, but I don't want to wait till July. I want to get the decision done and focus on my senior season. And I also want to help recruit future teammates."
Will decide between Tennessee, Miami, UNC, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and LSU

Deciding between those 6? Right now he only has offers from UT and Miami (of those 6)

That is what it says...I thought it was a little weird too:crazy:

That decision will be from the following pool of schools: Tennessee, Miami, UNC, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and LSU. Dewey has seen all the schools in person including a November visit to Neyland Stadium.

"It would be pretty cool to play there and the SEC is the greatest football in the country," Dewey said. "It'd be awesome to play for them. Coach (Les) Miles and (offensive coordinator) coach (Steve) Kragthorpe were both great guys and are great coaches. They had a lot of good things to say about me and seemed to like me a lot. It was a good visit overall and enjoyed my time there."

Dewey, who made the trip with his father, said there was additional meaning to the visit considering his mother is a graduate of LSU with most of her family still residing in Covington.

This is an old article, but it does bring out the fact that he thinks highly of the SEC and that he does have ties to LSU.

Since he was planning on deciding in June, I take it he already had his mind made up. That may not be good for us unless we get him to rethink. Hope to get him, I like a qb that can run too. Says he runs a 4.7 is pretty good. GBO!

The Kentucky game would have been an impressive one for a recruit to attend. I hope it made a solid impression on him.
