12 Million Dollars

But the Haslams run the show and they have money...............OH WAIT, Pruitt is their puppet!!

My memory is that Pruitt was hired by an AD that won a power struggle with the Haslams. They did try to foist Schiano on us, but don’t think we can blame Pilot oil for Pruitts stupidity.

Is roughly what Pruitt's buyout will cost if he is fired after this season.

4.8 million of that is due to the extension he was given before this season.

He had 4 seasons left on his contract when he was extended. It was extended by 2 years to leave him with 6 seasons (including this one).

It's just kind of mind boggling to me that he was extended during this pandemic.

Don't forget to factor in Brumbaugh. Thanks Fulmer. You nixed Freeze as OC yet let Pruitt make a hire without even an interview? Imagine where we could be if we'd hired Freeze as OC and have him ready to step into the role as HC. Fulmer again deserves our thanks for yet another great decision. On the bright side, we're almost done paying off our former miserable hires, so we're used to the bleed to our budget. One thing is certain. Fulmer needs to go as well. Thanks for the years of service, but this program doesn't need and can't take anymore help from Phil Fulmer.

12 million is pocket change compared to what UT would make in the first year alone if they hired Freeze. Every game would be a sellout, merch would be through the roof. It's not a valid excuse. Period.

If full capacity at Neyland would donate $117 a piece we could pay the buyout in cash today. I honestly think half of the position coaches are great at their jobs and should be retained by Freeze or Fickell. If you were able to keep Neids, Coach O, Tee and Graham along with the recruiting staff I think you would be able to salvage the recruiting class.

Maybe Phil saw this season’s struggles coming, but thought Pruitt is the guy. Maybe he gave an extension after a win streak and during the pandemic to reduce talk about firing Pruitt if this season went poorly.

Everyone in the chain of command that approved the raise/extension should have their employment terminated with cause. There is simply NO excuse to award a coach that lost to GA ST.
Pissing away someone else's money should be a criminal offense. Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Small price to pay imo to try and save this program
Its been 13 years since we ve been to Atl. And in that season we lost to Bama by 24 and UF by 39.

4 coaches later and we re still getting blitz by anybody good and losing games to teams that are not. That has happened to the last 5 coaches employed here.

Pruitt is well on his way to making the list. History says his name won't be the most recent very long. Theres nothing to save or salvage at this point.

I feel ya. But I still believe UT has a window to get it fixed. But they have to do it now or that window will close for good

Right now they re buying lottery tickets and wondering why there's an eviction notice on the front door of their apartment.

The window has closed substantially since Kiffin.

Well they need to find a way to open it then. Someone somewhere with power has to give a damn. Seriously. This is beyond ridiculous.

For a university with that kind of history in football to have multiple years of consistent rock bottom failure indicates that there are problems too big for any fan donation drive to bail them out of it.

They created this problem; they need to clean it up with their money, not mine.

I'm not sure its a question of want to.

I think (at least in the past) they have had plenty of want to. The problem was "they" all wanted to do it their way. Unity within the groups of people that could fix it has never been there. The curtain was pulled back on the last hire.

Much like getting a new car immediately after paying off the one you have, we can just trade Butch’s buyout for his.

That extension was a very bad move by a rookie AD.

I can agree with that. Everyone can't get on the same damn page. It's a ****ing power struggle, like a bunch of five year olds. It's stupid. You think Bama and UGA has those problems? Lmao no. People work together and pull in the same direction there. Period.

My wife is an Aggie; I thought they were crazy throwing $77M at Jimbo. We are going to see very soon how well that strategy has paid off when they curb stomp us on the way to the playoffs. We need to start paying on the front end of these hires, not the backside.

It is more than mind boggling. It was down right criminal. At the very least it should cost result in Fulmer's second pink slip.

I didn't really check my math last night but the buy out will realistically be closer to 13 million. If his total salary is 4.2 mil after the raise goes into effect, the buy out would be 12.6 mil if he was fired on Jan 31, 2021.
If he were to be fired at the beginning of December that would add about another 400k.

The 2 year extension tacked on an extra 5 mil of obligation in the case of a University buy out.

http://tennessee.edu/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Jeremy-Pruitt-football.pdf

The extension moved the end of the contract date to Jan 31, 2026.

Section 3.1.2. University Separation Payment. If the University terminates this Agreement without Cause pursuant to Section 3.1.1, then the University shall pay Coach a separation payment in the amount of sixty percent (60%) of the Base Pay and Supplemental Pay which would have been payable from the University Termination Date through January 31, 2024 (the "University Separation Payment''), without any mitigation obligations incurred by Coach or offset rights atbibuted to the University following any such termination. Payment of the University Separation Payment shall be made in equal monthly installments over a period equal to the number of months remaining until January 31, 2024, with the first monthly installment of the University Separation Payment due on or before the thirtieth (30111)day following the University Termination Date. The University's obligations under this Section 3.1.2 shall not accrue interest (so long as not in arrears).
