False.

If you live in a heavy Michigan fan base and constantly getting blasted to go there or even Mich St, why would you announce for a school you know isnt going to be received well with those around you?

Most kids are silent for that very reason, they know where they want to go but dont want everyone else especially those around them to know.

Yep. He doesn't want to be the Brian Kimbrow of Michigan. :machgun:

Fortenberry is just building drama. Why would O'Brien commit to UT now and take the ire of the local fans?

The same reason Crawley, Santos, Neil, and others chose to do it. If you knwo where you want to be....just announce it and either your friends and family can support you..or you can just gut punch them.

Don't claim to know what's going on in O"Brien's head, but I can assure you that Fortenberry is not just building drama...that's not his style. :hi:

Somewhere in the last three or four pages (Lord knows where), I saw something about O'Brien contemplating committing in early October. Doesn't he visit here in October? I'm starting to feel better about this one.

O'Brien with a sack and stop on 4th and 1 on first drive tonight. Also being used as a 300lb fullback in the wishbone. The second part IS NOT a joke.

"I cut it down to Michigan, Michigan State, Bama and Tennessee," O'Brien reported.

"I'm going to get my officials done with and then commit," he said. "It's getting a little edgy. I get phone calls at 10:30 at night, so I'm like 'I've got to commit.'"

O'brien moved up 68 spots to #152 in the 250 on Rivals, he is visiting Michigan for the ND game.

O'Brien will be looking to halt a two-game losing streak for his Flint Powers team. They fell by a final of 37-17 to Lansing Catholic Central on Thursday night. O'Brien finished with a team high six tackles, including a couple sacks and a few more tackles for loss. Instead of lining up at his usual nose tackle position, however, O'Brien has been playing a defensive end role for his team this fall.

"It's definitely different," O'Brien said. "I'm used to playing inside at the nose, but it's something my team needs me to do. It is a lot easier to pass rush off the end, so I like that a lot. I'll just keep improving at that spot."

O'Brien also doubles as a fullback and offensive tackle on defense, and rarely comes off the field. He scored one of Flint Powers' touchdowns Thursday night on a two-yard fullback dive. O'Brien welcomes the opportunity to go both ways for his team.

"I'm in pretty good shape," he said. "They run me like a horse, but that's not a challenge I am willing to shy away from."

Possible dates for OV:

Sept 9 - ND vs Mich
Oct 15 - LSU vs Tenn or Mich vs Mich St. I don't think he realized that they are the same weekend....

"I still have to talk to Coach [Fred] Jackson, but I am probably going to be at the Notre Dame game next week," O'Brien said. "I will be at Tennessee for the LSU game [Oct. 15]. I haven't figured out when I am going to Bama or State yet, but I will probably go to State for the Michigan game."

I'm have the feeling of o'brien being our big let down recruit.
1. It drags on
2. He seems truly torn
3. Lots of friends going to UM
4. Confidence abounds by vol fans
5. Repeated discussion of UM having or making room
6. He's a top flight DT- you know the drill

Not saying he won't be a vol but if he isn't I see him as the one recruit our fan base takes the hardest.

I agree that he will be the hardest to take if he is not a VOL. The problem is alot of folks on here set themselves up for it. Deny, Deny, Deny...is what you see them do. Everything can point to a kid wanting to go elsewhere, yet our recruiting fanbase just denies it until the kid picks another school. Note the DJ thread up until a day or 2 before he announced. Most felt he was a VOL and all you heard about was his supposed visit set to UT for a couple days after his announcement. O'Brien could be sitting in the front row in Michigans stadium for their 1st game wearing all maize and blue as the camera shows him he screams "Michigan is #1, I am all Wolverine". And you can bet several on here would say it is just a setup to let the locals down easy when he picks Tennessee.

But but but our insiders said we have nothing to worry about. This kid has tons of pressure to stay in michigan. He is not a lock by any means.
