4* and #27 on 247 composite ranking for class of 2012. Transferring from GT and Tennessee is in heavy pursuit of him, they look likely to get 1 of his 5 OV's and are putting the "full court press" on him according to VQ. He will have to sit out a year.

Listed at 6'8" 247lbs, a redshirt year would be good for Carter as he definitely could get into some better shape and improve conditioning, but there's no questioning the talent level.

Here's his 247 profile coming out of high school when he signed with Georgia Tech... Robert Carter

Here's his numbers from his first 2 years at Georgia Tech:

Freshman: 26.4mpg 9.9ppg 6.7rpg 44.6%fg 28.1%3pt 62.2%ft

Sophomore: 26.8mpg 11.4ppg 8.4rpg 46.7%fg 26.4%3pt 65.3%ft

So exactly why is he leaving GT?

So exactly why is he leaving GT?

Robert Carter talks about why he left Georgia Tech | www.ajc.com

Those goals, he said, are going to the NCAA tournament and developing his game and body to play professionally.

“Georgia Tech was a good school, a great school,” he said. “I just felt like I needed to put myself in a better position to accomplish the goals that I set for myself, and that’s it.”

In other words, I'm tired of playing for a $hitty team

Transfer rules as far as contact goes are, the player has to ask to be allowed to be contacted. Then the schools that wish to contact said player must write the AD of his current school and be granted permission.

Schools can deny permission to anyone they choose and they can also limit where the outgoing player can transfer.

I believe in the case of grad transfers, any one can leave any school for any other school as long as their current school doesn't offer the same post-graduate program.

As for this fellow, if he can average 12/8.5 while not being motivated, I'd love to see what he can do if he really wants to go all out.

There's a picture of this guy in the Kingsport Times News today with the headline Tyndall in hot pursuit - Dude looks like Maymons twin (from the neck up / that's all the pic shows) lol.

RT @JonRothstein: Georgia Tech transfer Robert Carter will visit St. John's on Sunday.

When is the last time St. Johns made the tourney?

2011 prior to that 2002 both 1st round losses.
Why would he state in the article wanted to be on a tournament bound team and visit one that has not made but one trip in the last Decade.

It's also interesting that people are saying Auburn has the inside track with him. He must have lots of faith in Pearl's rebuilding ability if that's the case.

Who knows, was it ever determined if this kid has to sit out a year or not....

we probably have just as much of an inside track as Auburn if he played AAU with Baulkman or McGhee?

Mentioned somewhere in one of these threads...

If all goes well, it’s possible he won’t take any more visits and could commit to the Johnnies tomorrow when he leaves the Queens school or later this week.

“We might like it to a point that we don’t have to go anywhere else,” Winfred Jordan, Carter Jr.’s AAU coach, told SNY.tv by phone Monday. “He could stop right now.”

Jordan said Carter Jr. is also considering South Carolina, Maryland, Baylor and Texas, but no other visits are planned.

-Adam Zagoria

Doesn't sound like Tyndall and Tennessee were really able to get a look from Carter.
