OT Omari Phillips, 6-6/270, Venice (Fla.) High
CONSIDERING: To be determined.
PERFORMANCE: Phillips played on both sides of the ball for most of the game at right tackle and defensive tackle.
STRENGTHS: Phillips has incredible size and good athleticism. He has good feet, is well conditioned and is a load to handle. Phillips has a long body, long arms and gets off the ball well.
WEAKNESSES: Phillips is young and raw with a ton of upside and he just needs to continue working on the things that will make him a better offensive tackle.

Use to be teammates with Florida player Trey Burton, says Ohio State & ND are showing the most interest at the moment.

Considering: Has early offers from Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Kentucky, Miami (FL), Purdue, USF, and Tennessee among others.
Performance: Phillips made at least 10 tackles in a 33-14 loss to undefeated Charlotte on Friday night. Most of his tackles were made on Rivals100 RB Mike Bellamy. Phillips was also in the Charlotte backfield all night harassing the Tarpons quarterback on passing plays.
Strengths: Phillips is an amazing-looking jumbo athlete. He bench presses 300 pounds, runs a 4.9-second 40-yard dash, and squats 450 pounds. He has a long frame and gets off the ball very well. He uses his long arms to shed blockers with ease, and is very disruptive as a pass rusher. He also has good feet, and is an excellent run stopper. Phillips also has all the tools to be an excellent left offensive tackle at the next level.
Weaknesses: It sounds crazy, but Phillips actually lost weight over the summer, to become a better pass rusher. If he ends up playing offense at the next level (Clemson wants him as an OT), then he will need to bulk up some. - G.P.

*Sniffs* something doesn't smell right? Smells and sounds like bull to me. Hmmmm...

Who says they're KINDA blindsided?. Drop that bombshell on anyone else and they're scrambling. Has to be more than surface deep.

I wonder if any of our Gator brethren have the inside scoop on what's really going on in this situation.

Well, I'm sure HG does, but he threw in the VN towel over the weekend, so I guess that's a bust.

I'm also sure that the Waco Kid will just say something along the lines of, "Everything's fine," and, "I knew this was coming."

Sounds to me like they just cut him loose. Not enough scholarships left I guess. Can we take him?

Not HG but basically what happened is he was cleared academically by the NCAA but UF admissions denied his entry. He's probably going to Miami. Heard he burned the UF bridge after he didn't get in and he was super interested in Miami leading up to signing day.

Thanks...smart move by Muschump and UF admissions to spurn an in-state recruit...

No problem. Dante Fowler Jr and Jonathan Bullard also still haven't reported. Rumors are that DFJ should be fine but no word out yet on Bullard. That would reallllly suck considering they were both 5 star defensive ends and Ronald Powell will be out the first half of the season after his torn ACL

MusCHAMP ;) thought he was going to be ready to move in as well. Phillips made it all the way to Gainesville an then got word he was denied admission. He was going to appeal but apparently burned the bridge pretty bad and there is no chance he is UF bound anymore.
