what a crazy journey we went on this season, starting 16th, to unranked, and finishing 12th

started the season 1-2 with a huge loss to Florida and we finish ranked 12th in the nation, ahead of Florida :dance2:

Good to finally end up higher than we started considering the turmoil this season has had.

Too bad Kansas couldn't lose for us.

Congrats, Vols! That is a nice ranking...but I would love to see a top 10 finish next year. It was an odd season (to say the least) in college football....and I'm not really sure how to reconcile my feelings about the ups and downs of the seasons with an SECCG appearance and a #12 finish.

Not too bad. Maybe this will start an upward trend. We will have the horses these next few seasons to make it happen.

It was a crazy season all around. It's the first time a team has won a (post-bowl) national championship with two losses, and nearly all the top teams had two or more losses.

Most years you couldn't go 10-4 and finish 12th, but when you win 10, lose to No. 1 on a late pick six and beat the crap out of No. 2, you have to finish fairly well up there.

We have a strong finish, bowl win and decent ranking to build on for '08. Now Fulmer needs to build a coaching staff that can get us back to the top.

Not shabby...Hopefully this will help us out on the recruiting trail...It would be nice to get a class in the top twenty. Hopefully we'll get the new coordinators in place and finish strong!

Last year BYU ranked ahead of UT at the end, glad to see that through all the craziness, the cosmos are once again properly aligned.

I like how in the ESPN.com Power 16, Florida State made it ahead of Tennessee and Mizzou.

Sweet! Finishing the year ranked higher than Florida, ranked higher than the all who beat us except LSU, great year, definitely much better than the season we don't speak of. Maybe we might have some momentum going into the next season??????

12th...I was thinking 10 - 12 so I'll take it. Congrats to the UT program and to all UT fans.

OK #12 pretty good showing all things considered, play one more week and the entire top 15 could jump all over the place. This has been one of the craziest least predictable seasons I can remember, and maybe it is a sign of things to come.
As to the teams above us, I think we beat Mizzou, Kansas, Va. Tech and definitely BC. Toss ups with Texas and Oklahoma. All showed signs of playing very well and games where Appy State would have beat them all, including the VOLS.
I don't want to look at this season as a portend for next season (I drank that Kool Aid in 04). But I do think the wisc game was huge and got our 08 season off on the right foot. Who CPF chooses to bring in will speak volumes, and no doubt shape VOL football for the coming years(if it works CPF reigns supreme, if not he goes out within 2 years).
As much as I hate to say it, fla. should be in front of the VOLS this year. Look deep in your orange hearts and ask, "Could we beat fla tomorrow?" I have and the answer is No, BUT we can and will get their gatorbutts 9/20 in Knoxville and humiliate the bama squad 10/25. GO VOLS

That is bogus. They basically get to play for the NC and are given a top 5 season by playing in weak conference. It's getting a little tiring. And, if not bad enough, they were already talking up the Buckeyes for next season saying they were a year early this year. Ugghhhhhhhhh......

You ought to be here with me in big 11 land...constant arguments with fans as to SEC and big 11.

What people up here just don't get is that the SEC has the quickest players on the field, not just WRs, DBs and RBs...OL, DL, and LBs just fly around the field (see last nights game and a video of wisc vs VOLS).

With that said expect Mich to get the message with Rod. and speed up the game. Also expect osu back next year in NC if not at least a BCS...

osu best players measure up to any in the SEC, they don't have as many as SEC teams, and they don't have them across the board. LSU OL and DL dominated and their DBs flat out played WRs of osu.

As to osu and playing in the SEC, they would be better than 50 - 50, probably get beat this year by fla, geo., lsu of course, possibly VOLS and Auburn. I would think they finish 8-4 .

That's an insult to the Buffalo Bills. The Bills may have lost all those Super Bowls, but at least they had to earn their way to them. They didn't get there by beating up on the Third World of football.

Two BCS championship games: SEC 79, Ohio State 38. Can we get the SEC champ a worthy opponent next time?
