'12 AL DT Justin Shanks

We should have the full court press on Kirven anyway.

Absolutely. They should be going all out for Kirven regardless of Shanks. I'd say they probably have a lot better chance at Kirven anyways for the very fact he's been to campus 3 times already, has set up an official, etc... Sure he might be a strong VT lean but at this point he seems like a more likely pull than Shanks is.

Wrong. CLT was just here a few weeks ago

That's what I said. Look what I was responding to. The fact that a coach from Tennessee is visiting him at his school doesn't mean much. It means Tennessee wants him, but it doesn't mean he is serious about Tennessee. It would mean far more if Shanks was the one that was actually visiting Tennessee.

Bingo. I actually like our chances with Kirven. If by some act of God we were to sway him and Shanks, I would be very happy with those two and O'Brien as our DTs for this class. I know a lot of people want McCullers because ideally he could contribute sooner, but I have reservations about him and his weight (and not being an EE) anyway. At least with the three freshman we would ideally have a very bright future on the DL.

If you could get all three(McCullers, Shanks, Kirven) you take them. McCullers is an impact player. Shanks would do well in the rotation. Kirven is a redshirt player with his broken ankle. So you take all three and O'Brien. We're not in a position to turn down good talent.

I wouldn't turn down McCullers. I just wouldn't be overly upset with missing on him if we were compensated with Kirven and Shanks.

Folks keep missing that McCullers is done in March - they are on quarters. He can be in for spring practice and take some summer classes to get a jump start. You always take a guy like him if you plan to run a multiple front defense. No brainer. But you also go after the quality HS DT's. It's not an either/or situation. It's both.

The question is starting to be asked on our sites as well. According to his HC he said he will, but I am going to contact a friend of mine, might be after the holidays, that is a NCAA compliance officer he at the university and see what he has to say.

I think if CDD could get Shanks and Kirven UT would pass on McCullers.

Does he know that he would ruin my childhood that way?

He can't enroll in March and therefore can't practice because he is not enrolled.

:hi:

I was under the impression he could, if not then I concede the point - but not the need for McCullers. Instant run defense next season while giving time to develop the young ones.

I was under the impression he could enroll in enough 8wk or internet classes to be able to participate.

That was the impression I had as well, which was why they are delaying the announcement - administrative details to work out.

I don't see what role an announcement would play in that but I would assume they can find him 12hours to take in some fashion.

Supposedly they wanted to check out his transcript and next quarter classes for the purposes of enrollment and then find what he could take to get him in for spring practice before going public with the commitment.

Do you think that means we won't take him if he can't participate in spring practice?

This is utter nonsense, if he is not enrolled at Tennessee by the last drop/add day for the semester he cannot in any way participate on spring practice...WTH is wrong with you people? Are you all dense?
