Hayes' reluctance to eliminate schools is understandable when you see the list of suitors from across the country that have jumped aboard his bandwagon in recent weeks. From the Pac-10, USC, UCLA and Stanford have begun recruiting him; from the SEC, it's Ole Miss, Tennessee and Vanderbilt; from the Big XII, it's Kansas; from the Big East, it's Pittsburgh and Syracuse. And that's not all of them, either.
"I been getting a lot of the attention out of the Midwest area," Hayes said. "I've got a lot of offers from the Big Ten. I've been wanting SEC offers and my first was Vanderbilt. I was ecstatic about Tennessee [offering]. I've known coach Baggett from when he coached at Michigan State. Tennessee was one of my favorite teams growing."
"When I was growing up I watched Peyton Manning," Hayes said. "The color stood out as well when I was younger. I can't explain why, but I've always liked them."
"They are an excellent program in an excellent conference," Hayes said. "SEC football is different than Big Ten football. I hear it's faster, and southern football is different. I'm looking to learning more. I'm looking forward to taking a trip down there this Summer. I'm excited to do that."
I have a great connection with the coaches. Coach Baggett coached at Michigan State. He has been in the Michigan area and been recruiting me for awhile now.
I'm also looking forward to seeing how they do this year.
I've cut it down to six right now. There's one school I want to look at, that I don't want to cut them out. The schools I have listed, I've visited all of them except for Tennessee, but I want a chance to visit Wisconsin before I take them out.
The Last one, is Tennessee. An SEC school. It doesn't get any better. I have a great connection with the coaches. Coach Baggett coached at Michigan State. He has been in the Michigan area and been recruiting me for awhile now. He let me know that earlier in my recruiting process that we're really looking at you here. They came through with an offer a couple weeks ago and I was excited about that. When I think about Tennesee, I think about what Mark [Ingram] did when he went to Alabama. He opened up opportunities for players in the Midwest to go down there and succeed at southern schools. Now I look at it like that when they offered. Their running back position is open now. Bryce Brown left, transferred out, so it's open and I feel like I can attack it because I'm a competitior. That's what Mark did. He competed at Alabama. Tennessee is great at developing players. Peyton Manning, he has super bowl rungs. Eric Berry, he's going to be an excellent player, so they definitely develop players and get them ready for the next level if that's what they want. I'm also looking forward to seeing how they do this year.
Guys we are lucky. I got to school with justice at GBHS, and ill be at UT in the fall. Ive been in this kid's ear, we also grew up going to church together and I played varsity for GBHS my junior yr. Im in J.Hayes, or "squill's" ear every day, last week he told me UT's now in his top five.
He also wears an Iowa sweatshirt often, but he talked to Dooley recently, and Ive helped convince him to at least take a visit because it will kill anything he's seen at Mich,MSU, or Northwestern(where one of pur other players is headed). We have a legit shot at this kid, and he really likes that if he chooses UT, someone he knows (me) will be there.
