"I had a pretty good year," Dawson said. "Our team went 15-0 and we won the 4A state championship. I graded out pretty good. I had over 100 tackles (176 to be exact) and had a few touchdowns on offense."
With his recruitment just starting, the Danville (Ky.) native does not plan on making a decision like in-state standouts Jon Davis and Darrian Miller, who both committed early to Kentucky.
"I'll probably make it after my senior season," Lamar said of his decision.
A star on both sides of the ball, Dawson is being recruited to play linebacker at the next level.
"I play hard every snap and get to the football on defense. I play both ways, playing tight end on offense, but I think I'll play on the defensive side of the ball in college."
Dawson, ranked as the No. 10 middle linebacker in the country by Scout.com, now favors Kentucky slightly over Louisville, Cincinnati, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Tennessee, USC and Oregon. He says all have offered (13 total).
I will laugh if he stays in-state.
Me too, but that is the way that state is and especially certain areas. I have a good friend that used to coach near Danville and he said the people in that area are obsessed to the point of sickness when it comes to Kentucky sports. I imagine the kid is probably be stalked about 24-7 to go to Kentucky by the 'necks down there.
