$100 A Barrel Oil is on the Way

I'm about to go take a big crap and read my new Bigguns magazine I just got in the mail. This will take roughly 90 minutes or so depending on how good March looks. I heard it'll be Rockies themed.

Don't think I'll be using oil.

you'll have the lights and heat on right? Also the pipes you flush the tissues down are a petroleum product.

The energy you use to take the dump came from food that was raised, harvested, and delivered using fossil fuels.

I just dont think that the people of SA are going to revolt and overthrow the king. Too many people have it "good" and the ones that dont, dont have the resources to pull it off. The local media will under report it, (besides FB, Twitter, youtube, etc)

But shooting at protesters isnt a good start to "Day of Rage"

I don't think people realize how much manufacturing depends on petroleum. Paints, carbon fiber composites, plastics, etc. Much more then most people realize.

When you consider the raw synthetic value of petroleum, it seems a crime that we don't have a better strategy to supply the energy for that synthesis (and almost all other energy we need) than burning it.

This is crazy. Companies in the Bakken oil field are filling up 100 car trains at $104 a barrel and burlington northern is charging $6 to ship down to Louisiana refiners who need oil since the gulf is in decline and paying $110 a barrel. Everyone is making money

Also a new improved Fracing technique is increasing production while cutting costs + completion times.

Sweet, maybe we can loan the $$$ to some other country to drill for it and we can buy the oil from them!!!

StatoilHydro, as it was called for a few years after the merger and before reverting back to just Statoil, funded my thesis research. I'm glad to see that it looks like they've recouped those dollars :). Now, if only my research were of the variety that would have actually helped them with the find so that I could actually convince them of that....

I agree, we aren't nearly as efficient as we should be with that system.

Interesting I will have to google this.

What was your research? I guess your opinion of abiogenic oil is that its not true?

Norway's Statoil ASA says it has made a major oil discovery in the Barents Sea off the country's northern coast.
The state-controlled oil company says the "breakthrough" is one of the most important finds during the last decade and that the oil is expected to be "easily producible."
Statoil said Friday that the estimated volume of the discovery is between 150-250 million recoverable barrels of oil equivalent.
Statoil, which has been the operator of more than 60 of some 80 oil wells drilled in the southern Barents Sea, says it will take 5-10 years from discovery to production.

Should help Norway's economy anyways.

It pertained to hydrogen production via methane reforming.

As for abiogenic oil - yes, my opinion is that there is no significant abiogenic source. I'm no expert, though.

I heard a theory the other day that since we have a huge untapped supply of oil, the US is just waiting for other countries to use theirs up so we can control the oil market. I LOL'd

They were saying 187 dollar a bill by the end of the summer yesterday in a drudge headline. I think that converts to at least 5 dollars a gallon.

I think it's like 0.06 cents at the pump for every $$$ that it goes up, I could be wrong but I recall it something like that. But $187 I can see that if all hell breaks lose. I've also seen reports for $200-$300 which I think is nutty but that would put a halt to alot countries.IMO.

$200/barrel would put my driving to a halt and make my choice of going completely car-free a very easy and safer one.
