10 winningest programs

The University of Florida could have 27 straight seasons of undefeated women's basketball and win each championship game 100-0 and I would still say that women's basketball totally sucks.

Easy to say when you guys suck. Do you honestly think UF's athletic accomplishments compare with UT's? Less success is not more impressive just because it happened more recently.

No, you said that and that a school's tradition was not relevant. That's simply not true.

Actually, I would say that UF's recent success means that its athletic program, overall, is better than UT's. I think UF's two national championships in football since 97, plus their incredible back-to-back NCAA bball championships, with two other Final Four appearances, plus in the national title game again in football this year, outweighs UT's athletic program success no matter the starting point of your measure because I do think that sustained success like UF's over the past 20 years does mean more in that calculation than success in the 1930's.

I agree completely. But I also think that you said that a tradition dating as far back as the 30s was not relevant. It is. Albeit, not as impressive or as important has the recent success enjoyed by Florida. But it is relevant. Of course, I wouldn't really call Florida's success "recent." Nearly 20 years of excellent play in football is impressive and would qualify Florida as a tradational power in my book.

And what does this opinion have to do with the thread? You still aren't one of the top ten winning programs.

I:
Everyone knows that Michigan has won more games than any team. We know that because ESPN loves to remind us. But, Michigan also played more seasons than any team (128 years). So, I took the top 10 winningest programs and showed you average wins per year (a more accurate measure of the winningest programs). Then, I multiplied the average by 128 years so that you can see how many games each team would have won had they played as many games as Michigan. Here goes:

Rank Team Avg Wins/Season Total Wins (128)
1. TX 7.1304 913
2. AL 6.9646 891
3. TN 6.9369 888
4. ND 6.9243 886
5. OK 6.8938 882
6. NE 6.8474 876
7. MI 6.7890 869
8. OS 6.7627 866
9. SC 6.5565 839
10. PS 6.5206 834

Just another reason why you all should not believe the hype that Tennessee is an inferior program throughout the history of CF.
read this on another site and thought that it was very, very interesting.

Hee hee hee :)

Talk about counting your chickens before they hatch. And back-to-back NCAA bball championship isn't incredible. Very good, but it isn't like it's the first time it's been done. And anyway you want to look at it, 6 National Championships is more than 2.
