1. The thunderous applause John Majors gets upon being announced as one of Saturday's "Legends."
2. Given the ball security issues in the scrimmages, it'll be interesting to see which back carries the ball inside the 10.
3. A nearly neophyte group of receivers playing as a unit for the first time.
4. How the continued addition of amenities makes Neyland Stadium increasingly sedate.
5. How there's no way Western Kentucky should be playing at the FBS level.
6. The most physically talented secondary in Tennessee history.
7. How much the run blocking has improved.
8. How much the pass protection hasn't.
9. If any of the young linebackers are ready to step in and help fill a gaping hole at that position.
10. The new tempo this program works at under Team Kiffin.

I'd also watch for the temp the offense sets in the game, as far as getting plays called and communicating back and forth via sidelines. I expect to see a few delay of game penalties.

I have to say I'm shocked this hasn't already happened...but I'll just have to have faith in Thompson/M. Kiffin

so you're one of those who believe the troughs and dark concourses make Neyland more intimidating? Not that I disagree but I do like some of the changes I've seen

I don't. Kiffin says he has the first 15 plays, all 3rd down situations, red zone and short yardage plays scripted. I would think that means the offense has gone over and over specific situations and the options are rather pared down. I guess the young receivers could create some issues, but I expect this team to be mentally prepared.

I am pretty happy with how things have turned around in regards to Johnny Majors getting his due. I'm glad we didn't wait until it was too late.

I hope you're wrong about this one. Pass blocking has been this team's curse for the last few years. Even Ainge's senior year when he had the fewest sacks on him in FBS, it was just because he knew when to dump it off or throw it away.

So... did anyone else have to look up the definition of neophyte?

I was pretty sure what it meant, and I used context clues. But still, I don't often hear that word come up in conversation.

This is not good... :nono:

We will have to throw the ball to stay in the game against UF.

If that is true, we won't stay in the game for long. We have to get it done on the ground if we want to hang around with them.

Now we just have to wait until things are turned around in regards to Phillip Fulmer getting his dues. :zeitung_lesen:

We will have to throw it enough to keep their defense honest. We saw over and over last year what happens when we can't throw the ball at all...

WKU might surprise us all. Not that they would win, but they have a very good history of playing football and competing against good teams.

They have just recently made the jump to the top level and do not have the athletes yet, but I think they will play very hard and will be prepared.

As to the other points, I think we learn a hell of a lot more come the UCLA game.

"If wishes were wells..." I would like to open with WKU followed by UCLA then play Ohio before facing fla in fla. Three weeks of preparation/competition would greatly help the players and coaches work out problems.

I don't think we beat fla period, 3rd, 4th or last game of season...but would like 3 -0 record before going to the Swamp.

Regardless I am anxiously awaiting 9/5.

He gets his dues everytime he goes to the mailbox to pick up his undeserved, bloated buyout checks.

I don't know about #6. Eric Berry is the best player at UT in a long while, maybe ever? But the secondary as a whole??? Best ever? There are two potential freshmen starting, how is this the best ever?

Agree entirely about UCLA game. I also believe that will be the first time people start bashing Fulmer in the media. Same team, different coaches does not fully apply due to Bryce Brown, Nu'Keese etc who I expect to be big factors in the UCLA game, but it will not even be somewhat similar. UCLA will be better than last year, and we will still obliterate them.

Clearly time will have to heal feelings on both sides, probably just as much time as it took in the Johnny Majors situation...

And no, I'm not a Fulmerite. Phil had become complacent and it was way past time for change. But living in Florida in 1998, I sure did enjoy the results of his work that year.

I dont think he claimed it the best ever, but i do agree with him that it is the most talented ever. Now if that talent translates to the field will determine if its the best ever or not.

If the game is still close after the 5 minute mark of the second quarter Saturday, we've got serious problems. They are probably the worst team in the Sun Belt. That makes them officially awful.

I'd prefer it take roughly 3 times as long. 50 years sounds like a good idea.

When two teams are as unevenly matched physically as we will see on Saturday two things happen that allow the lesser team to keep it close or even pull out a win (i.e. UCLA last year):

1. The players of the lesser team out-hustle and out-play their counterparts

2. The coaching staff of the lesser team outperforms their counterparts

Those are two things that I worried about every game under the previous staff...

I'm not even a little bit worried about them with this new staff
