10 Players from TN each year?

I was listening to Doug Matthews this morning on The Zone and he was talking about CBJ and recruiting. About three weeks ago, Doug didn't seem to high on the hire, but this morning he said that everything CBJ had done so far seemd to be the right moves. Especially reaching out to former players, coachs, the media, and in state high schools. He then went on to talk about the increase in talent level in Tennessee, and that he expects CBJ to sign around 10 players each year from this state. I'm not against it, but that number seemed high to me. I can't remember that last time we signed that many in state kids. Thoughts?

If we get the top ten players from Tennessee every year, we will have a solid base on which to build with players from the surrounding States. It would be a move in the right direction. I am tired of Bama, UGA, USC etc. taking our best players.

We have 37 Tennessee players on the roster now. Do you want more???????

Michael Williams, Tyler Drummer, Drae Bowles, Corey Alexander, Sam Cranford, M. Teague, Patrick Ashford, Tyler Coombes, Devrin Young, Rod wilks, J. Smith, Andrew Henry, Grer Grieco, Auston Bohn, Matt giampapa, Adam eicheleberger, james Stone, Tiny, Assac MObley, Kerbyson, eric gordon, Max Arnold, David Page, cody Blanc, Michael Cantwell, Ben Bartholomew, Brodus, Dakota Summers, Greg King, Bullard, Brock Collier, dylan West, Brendan downs, Jacob Carter, Joseph Ayers, Bryant pumlee, Daniel Hood, & Mack Crowder.

Getting Tennessee players is not all that it is cracked up to be. Look at the 37 players on that list, and tell me how many are real contributors to the team on Saturdays?????

You can't even tell me what position 75% of them even play. They never see the field.......

We want the best ones in Tennessee; those who go to other schools and make the All America teams playing at other schools. Quality numbers rather than just number.

Yes, we need all the top HS player from in-state to stay home and play for the Vols. At the same time, we need to recruit nationally to find the right players to fill our needs. So there is a balance. Once you've struck that balance, anyone in the 2-3 star range, the so called "projects" should come out of Tennessee where their desire would help them stay motivated.

You build a great high school program by building great youth programs. Although he can recruit nationally, Coach is choosing to build Tennessee football from the ground up by giving them a goal. "If I can be one of the top 10 in the state..." will be on the mind of many talented in-state prospects in weight rooms this off-season. I love the statement, and I love that he threw a number out there. BUJO is fighting and winning some major psychological battles. Impressive

Absolutely correct. On yet another level, he is attempting to "win the hearts and minds of the people."

Just because they weren't signed didn't mean they couldn't play. This has been a thorn to me for years. Like I said before...just ask Bama, USCe,Notre Dame, LSU, USCw, Marshall, etc., if Tennessee kids can ball.
GO VOLS!

Ky has pulled more than a few productive players from Blount County.

No doubt, but I don't think anyone has answered my original question.

Oh, sorry about that. What was the question again?
But seriously (1) When was the last time we had a coach to embrace UT like Butch has, i.e, high school coaches, past alumni, present fans. You would almost swear he was from Tennessee. (2) This actually leads back to (1). He actually has given all Volunteers a reason to believe in the Tennessee program again after all these years and his reaching out to the state high school coaches will pay dividends. (3) We don't want all Tennessee players, just the best. If we could get the best, mind you, perhaps top 10 for whichever side of the ball, I believe the best 10 could contribute. Please understand we have to recruit nationally to try to get the rest of the best to compete for national championships. I know we aren't Florida, Louisiana, etc.
I hope this was closer to what you were looking for.
Sorry for the length...but
GO VOLS!:dance2:

Jones needs to do what Fulmer never did. Build HS football in the state. I want to see UT camps in Jackson, TN, and in the Nashville area. This is where coaches can really evaluate and build relationships with players and coaches.

Hold a coaching clinic and a players clinic at a small college.
