He's 6' 7", 237 lbs and plays at Detroit (MI) Southeastern.
(His Sparq, 40, vertical, and lifting numbers aren't listed on Rivals right now)

He's a really versatile athlete and he projects to be a mid-to-high 4 star prospect. As a sophomore he had 108 tackles, 19 sacks and two picks. He also lined up at TE and caught 29 passes for 503 yards and 9 TDs.

Although DT is our most glaring weakness on the line, edge passer rushers are a must in Monte's scheme.

He already has been offered by UT (and holds offers from Michigan, MSU, Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Notre Dame, Illinois, Purdue, Wisconsin, Miami (FL), and Iowa as well)

I think CEO can reel him in :)crossfingers:), but there's a lot of competition for his signature. Which coach is it that the staff expects to recruit the midwest?

Any relation to Vernon Gholston? Since he's from Detroit like Vernon, I assume they're related.

cousins. This kid looks like a freak of nature though. I'm not sure there is any way we can lure him to knoxville.

"(Michigan) is doing good as far as recruiting – they've got a couple guys from Florida that I met – but I don't think it will really affect my decision."

The biggest factor that will affect Gholston's decision is what his research of the schools recruiting him reveals. Visiting the campuses of schools is an important part of that research and he's got several planned in the coming weeks.

"I am going to take a couple of these visits and then I'll definitely know for sure," Gholston said. "I know I am going to Alabama, Tennessee and Clemson. I know I am going to go to Miami, but I've got to get in touch with the coaches from Miami."

"I will fly into Birmingham around 7 or 8 on Friday night and stay in Tuscaloosa until Sunday morning," said Gholston who stands a towering 6-foot-7, 237 pounds. "This will be my first trip to Tuscaloosa, and I am pretty pumped up about it. They have a great program and I hear nothing but good things about Alabama."

"Alabama is one of the main schools I am looking at, and I wanted to make sure I checked them out real well. I want to check out as many of the schools that are recruiting me as I can. Alabama is one of the top programs in the country, so the more I can learn about them the better."

It's weird. He's Vernon Gholston's cousin but Ohio State isn't recruiting him for some reason. Hopefully Tennessee can get him instead of Michigan or another SEC school.

6'7 240? He seems like he's gonna bulk up and become a DT. Then again, if hes that much of a freak, line him up at WR. He'd have about half a foot over a large majority of corners. He could at least be an animal in the redzone.

Chances are slim to none that it would happen though.

"I stopped in Tennessee first, and even though I was only there for five hours, it was a great experience and I am glad I made it," said Gholston. "They made me feel like I was home. Everyone was great and the coaching staff really had a lot of enthusiasm. I am glad I made the stop."

...

"I am going to make it to LSU soon. I will probably visit Miami, Florida and USC this summer," said Gholston. "Everyone is still in it. I don't know if I will take an official to Alabama because I saw pretty much what I needed to see, but I may go back if I need to."

"I don't think I'm gonna participate in any camps," he said. "I'm probably going to visit Clemson, USC, Tennessee, Miami and LSU, though. I'm not sure about others. Those are the only ones I can tell you about now."

On Ohio St.:
“I’m not just going to put them at the top of my list or anything like that,” he said. “Don’t get me wrong, they’re a good school but there I’ve been talking to other schools longer. I have to evaluate them like I’ve evaluated everyone else.”

Although he does not list a leader, Gholston named Michigan State, Tennessee, Miami, Alabama, USC, Oklahoma, OSU and LSU as schools showing him what he described as “genuine interest.”

He would be a nasty WR and I bet he would just flat run over some defenders but I agree it would be a lond shot.

"It was a pretty good visit," Gholston said. "I would love to go back. I really liked the vibe I got from the coaches and the players. There was a lot of positive energy with the program. My plan is to go back in June for Tennessee's one-day camp."

On Lance Thompson:
"He's easy to talk to," Gholston said. "He is really excited about things at Tennessee, you can tell that when you talk to him."

Per Rivals... He visited for one of the first Vol workouts at the start of spring...

Not sure there ever has been or willl be a 6'7" DT.

What's the tallest DT anyone has heard of?

Carlos Dunlap can in at 6'7" 265 and is now at 290. Plays a pretty mean DE. This kid looks a lot like Dunlap with the height and speed.

I don't know his exact height, but John Henderson was close.

Edit: he is listed as 6'7" on NFL.com, so he was probably close to that at UT.

from espn...

SPNU 150 Watch List defensive end William Gholston listed his top schools for affiliate Web site CrimsonConfidential.com.

"I've known them for a long time, but this is the first time I'm telling somebody. Michigan State, Ohio State, USC, Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, Miami-FL, Michigan and Oklahoma."

He added, "Most of my top schools are out of state. That's not a big deal to me, though. It's all about liking the coaches and feeling comfortable with the school and coaches."
