Vols super recruiter Ed Orgeron is recruiting the Chicago area for Tennessee, and he is expected to make a strong run at Cooper and Prater. "Prater" is Wide Receiver Kyle Prater Proviso West High, Illinois. He is 6-5, 185-pounder, and is the real deal.

Saw him months ago and thought he'd be a no-brainer for this staff but I'm curious how much interest he currently has in us. He did say he was considering stopping by after a tour of the south which included Arkansas.

I didn't see him in-person, just some highlights. I saw his name on preliminary lists for can't-miss-blue-chip-all-world prospects a while ago. I thought he was one of the most impressive players in this clip, but I'm an amateur talent evaluator, so I wondered if my assessment was disagreeable with the staff's assessment. It's easy for me to see the film and say, "Wow, that is a Lane Kiffin-type wide receiver!" But I have to step back and modestly accept that I am an armchair expert and what I think isn't always correct. I thought we would work our way into the picture but in interviews to this point, we haven't gotten much of the ink.

You be the judge, watch him in 1-on-1 drills and figure out whether he's the prototypical big wide receiver that coaches like Lane Kiffin covet.

According to Mike Farrell, the Illinois coaching staff thinks that UT will make a serious run at Prater and current commit Corey Cooper. Cooper is rumored to heavily leaning to switching commitments to ND, but apparently they are more worried about the Vols.

Good info and we haven't offered Cooper yet have we?

I am in Chicago all the time for business. I might have to take a Friday and watch this kid play. He has offers from all over. Usually, if you are 6'5" and from Chicago, you are playing basketball.

Easy to spot him in his video -- he's the tallest player on the team. Excellent hands, good concentration, makes the tough catch, doesn't have breakaway speed. The one-on-one didn't impress me, Jack. He has the size, but I didn't see any evidence that he can out-muscle the DB and beat him off the line. There just wasn't footage and that's what I would be most concerned with given his pretty average speed.

4.56 is pretty quick. Not blazing but still fast. With his long legs, it probably takes him longer on the first few strides to get going.

I doubt he's that fast. He's a long strider, I know, but looking at the markers on the field he looks slower.

Found this video. Maybe some have seen, maybe some have not.

I really do not think that he is that long of a strider. He runs a little to straight up, especially in his initial drive and through his cuts. This is a kid IMO that will get faster after an off season of college workouts.

We have gotten some speed burners, but this kid would give us an added dimension.
