Tommy Rees - Football Recruiting

"Just following college football you know they have great tradition there, and now with the new coaching staff, coach Kiffin and those guys, it seems kind of exciting there,"

"I first heard from Tennessee a few months ago, talking with coach (Mitch) Browning," Rees. "In the last few weeks though things have really picked up and then with coach Chaney coming by the school I think things might get pretty serious."

Per Rivals...

I expect there to be more coming out of nowhere like this...

This staff will find its QB.

Marve & Hendrix/Scoggins are our guys

Would a player like this be a 3rd selection..taking 3 qb's this year

No way we take 3 QBs this year. We will take Marve then prolly Hendrix. Then in 2011 we can start building depth at the position by adding 1 QB for every class like USC does...

But then again, some well informed people are saying that if Marve comes to UT, Stephens will be transferring this summer. So we may have to look at 3 QBs for 2010. I really have no clue...

I just love the fact that this guy heard about UT's interest from Browning. This guy can't even leave campus to recruit and he's still working the phone's and catching recruits' ears. I think that if one of our offensive asst's end up leaving after this year, we need to make sure Browning replaces him.

If Marve walks on at UT... he's a freebie. UT can still afford to sign two true Fr and let them battle it out.

With Marve unable to play can he still be a true team player but never see the field or is he limited to what he can do with the team.(not his thread just thought of it as I was on here)

My actual point is, I think we will pull 1 big name and 1 smaller name. I believe that a tennessee high school kid mught walk on instead of going to a small college also. At that point we will have 6 QB's that could be able to start in 2 years. Stephens, Marve, rozier, Big name, Little name, and Tenn walk on. if we can't find a cappable QB then I say we Clone Manning.

Just got back from a local establishment where one of our coaches was on the phone for quite some time (30 minutes) with the dad of a QB named Tommy. I'm guessing it's Tommy Rees seeing that Lake Forest is only minutes from Purdue. Very interesting conversation from what I could hear. The coach said this kid had the most zip on the ball coming out of his hand they had evaled. Dad was concerned that they had offered Hendrix, but the coach was not to concerned with Hendrix committing. From my eavesdrooping this is the kid they really want.

Once again, awkwardness.

 Wait, that cannot be true. Sab has already informed me that there are no QBs out there that are better than Hendrix except Heaps and Scroggins cuz he has watched the videos of all the QBs. There is no way UT is looking at a 193 pound QB cuz Hendrix is a full grown man at 220. Sab told me that offer lists is how you really see how good a QB is. This guy only has a Miami-OH offer...

Ok seriously, Rees is a guy that JB was saying good things about as soon as Chaney (I assume) went and watched him. He is starting to get loked at by some other big time schools as well. Notre Dame has been high on him the start. New Rivals article on him today as well:

"I feel like things are starting to heat up," he said. "I'm getting a bunch of calls and just (Tuesday) night coach (Jim) Tressel called from Ohio State."

"He just wanted to make sure I was interested and stuff because they were getting in kind of late," Rees said.

On Wednesday, Notre Dame assistant Ron Powlus e-mailed to let Rees know the Irish were still in the mix.

"(The e-mail) just said that he's finally back in from recruiting and that he wanted to check in and he said he was really impressed with everything I did when he saw me throw," Rees said.

In addition to Ohio State and Notre Dame, Rees has heard from Tennessee, Stanford, Kansas, Wisconsin, Purdue, Iowa, North Carolina and Virginia.

He is rated as a 3star on Rivals at the moment...

Just relating some interesting info, I thought. Not trying to sell anything. Take it for what it's worth. I've got a picture of me I could post.

I'll be really impressed if it's of you and Willie. :)

Hey, crazier things happen every day. Can't say I wouldn't be listening to something like that too.

That is why I laugh at those who take Rivals so seriously. They gave Ralph Williams a 3*/5.6 rating based soley on his early offers, without having seen any of his film.

Most of the people at Rivals couldn't evaluate talent any better than your mailman. They're sportswriters and often bad ones at that---no proofreading skills, simple grammar errors which a first year journalism major shouldn't make.

BTW they are all the kid they really want. It's called recruiting talk. Every recruit is treated like a prince.

Just read an interview Rivals did with him. He is excited about the camp and won't be nervous.

He has official offers from Bowling Green, Miami (Ohio), and Central Michigan. But he is starting to draw interest from much bigger schools. Notre Dame and OSU. He will also be going to a camp at Stanford. Watch Hargbaugh offer him.
